Richard “Benny” Stelzer died on October 8th, 2023. He was 88 years old, and he was a character to say the least. As many say: “Practically everyone in this town knows Benny”. Rarely does someone come into your life, even if it was a brief chance encounter, that sticks with you for a lifetime. Benny was that guy. He would strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone. He loved to joke - often sarcastically, he loved his plants and visits to Balleks Garden Center. According to him he was so old he had a pet dinosaur when he was a kid and when asked what that was like he would say “Oh It was BIG”. He never drove or had a driver’s license, but managed to get anywhere he wanted to go with his personality and even chumming a ride from a total stranger was not unusual (It was a wonder he never was abducted, But even if that were to have happened, he would have worn the kidnapper down). Benny was a talker some say never ending – but always made you laugh. Boy did he have stories from all the eccentric people in his life (From old Hollywood Actors to people in the area). He won the hearts of many and managed his way thru life with much love, that iconic voice and laugh, his quick wit, and his idiosyncrasies.
