Richard Gregory Avila

Richard G Avila was born September 1st 1947, to Theresa and Fred Avila, in Stockton, California, where he was raised, went to school and resided. He married Marilyn on July 16th, 2007 in Stockton, CA.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and a master’s degree from National University in Stockton, CA. He worked as a special education teacher for the California Youth Authority and Stockton Unified School District for 21 years. He was involved in the Tarahumara and Sundance Running Clubs as an avid marathon runner of 50+ years and was an active member of the Native American community at local pow-wows and Three Rivers Lodge in Manteca. He received multiple awards throughout his running career.

Richard is survived by his wife Marilyn, his sons Ysidro, Anthony, Matthew, Stephen, and Samuel, his brother Martin, and his grandson Xavier.
