Richard's obituary
Richard Allan Adams, Dick to all who knew and loved him, passed peacefully on January 31, 2024. His struggles ended surrounded by his closest family.
Dick grew up in Chesaning, Michigan and began working at a local meat packing plant as soon as he was able, where he joined his two older brothers, and mom, who all worked there too. During high school Dick met the love of his life Kathy Sue (Devereaux). After graduating Dick went on to Central Michigan University, where he prepared for his career as a teacher. Dick served as a teacher, mentor, coach, friend, and occasional class clown at Hemlock High School. He taught various subjects throughout his years in the classroom, and coached many teams during that time as well. In addition to that, Dick served the local community by founding, and running, a summer recreation program that still runs today.
Dick retired in 2009 after 38 years of teaching. Shortly thereafter Dick and Kathy relocated, spending the warm months in Ludington, Michigan and the bulk of the year in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Dick lived a full and fruitful life with more memories and friends than he could count. However, his proudest accomplishment was his marriage to Kathy of nearly 53 years, his two children, and his eleven grandchildren. Anyone who knew Dick heard of their adventures, and could feel his pride, love, and devotion to each of them.
Dick was preceded in death by his sister-in-law Debbie Jordan, father Donald Adams, mother-in-law Patricia Devereaux, father-in-law Jay Devereaux, stepfather Jim Garrett, mother Mary Garrett, brother Bill Adams, brother-in-law Maynard Price, and sister-in-law Amy Tupica.
Dick is survived by his wife Kathy, son Jaeme (Katie), and daughter Natalie (Alex); grandchildren Savannah (Troy), Anais, Dimitri, Holden, Townsend, Sydney, Addyson, Langston, Andersen, Brayden, and Cody; brother Donald Adams (Jan) and sisters-in-law Cherry Price, Tina Burden (Charlie), Mary Spicer (Terry), and many cousins, nieces, & nephews.
Dick was fiercely loved and will be deeply missed, but the memories of him will last forever. Per his request, we will have a celebration of his life in Michigan later this year.
