We met Rex & LaWanda in the most unusual circumstance; a meeting that became a MIRACLE for both our families.  In the summer of 1990 we were moving from Vancouver, WA to Oklahoma and were not able to sell or rent our home.  Regardless, we were literally moving out of our home and packing up, because a new job awaited David in Oklahoma City.   Our housing situation was in the Lord's hands, and we were walking by faith!

One morning when we were actually in the process of packing a moving truck, Dr. Ken Bryant called and invited us to lunch in Portland.  To this day, we have absolutely NO idea why we went.   We both had to change clothes and clean up from our moving just to cross the bridge for lunch.  When we got to lunch, there were 8 of us, including Rex & LaWanda--who we had never met.

As we sat there that day, both of us were wondering why in the wide world we agreed to come; we had so much to do, and this was an interruption!  In the course of conversation, our new friend (Rex) began to tell that they were renting a house in Vancouver; just that morning the owner called and told them she was breaking the lease and they would have to move immediately.  They were desperately looking for "any" place to land.

Wallah!  My husband and I both sat up straight and responded!  "We have a place."  Just like that the transaction was made and a lifelong friendship was formed.  The Bullocks moved into our house as we were moving out.  We left our bank account open; they desposited the rent in it: and we paid the mortgage from Oklahoma.  The next summer they found another place, and we were able to sell our home.

Lunch that day was orchestrated by God to solve a dilemma for two desperate families.  WHAT A MIRACLE.  We will absolutely NEVER forget that day and the amazing way God worked.  And, that's how we met the Bullocks!

Rex & LaWanda have been our friends since 1990 (See "our story").  We have both worked with Rex closely especially in the last ten years through Transform Northwest.  Rex & LaWanda are dear friends.  Rex was a man of vision, integrity, character, and loyalty.  We will miss him greatly!

To the family of Rex Bullock we offer sympathy and prayers.  Rex was a great man who lead well and lived with passion.

It was my rich privilege to meet and minister, through singing, with Rex in the mid late 1960s.   Those of us who traveled together won't forget the church in Iowa with a Jolly Green Giant in the basement.  Or the  memory of sitting in his blue Chevy Impala one Sunday afternoon, looking up and seeing five or six policemen surrounding the car.   After a few minutes of tension, the issue was removed when the police realized, though the car had been reported stolen it has also be reported recovered. Another memory from that time was, leaving school in Rex's car later than the BMI choir.  Because some of us had a work schedule we were late in leaving.  We were desperately trying to find the group in the hills of Kentucky.  On that search we needed fuel so stopped at a country gas station,  the attendant said, "we ain't had gas in two weeks" and then proceeded to tell us we couldn't get where we were going from that location.

I better stop with the stories, but my respect and appreciation for Rex has always been strong.  Though we ministered in different circles, we would occasionally cross paths and renew our friendship and commitment to the Lord.   GCS

Rex had a lasting impact on my life. As a young child in Santa Cruz, CA, his singing and sermons always captivated me. It was under his preaching that I became a Christian. I will never forget him, nor his family.

We always looked forward to visits from LaWanda and Rex at Victory Fellowship, he kept everyone on their toes with his wonderful stories of his life and adventures he had been on. My favorite was when he had just been hired on at John Deere and LaWanda was in labor with their first child. He always had a way of making everyone smile, no matter what troubles they had going on in their lives and I loved him for that. Rex will be truly missed and remembered always. LaWanda, you and your family are forever in our thoughts and prayers.

What a loss! What a man of God who impacted people for Christ wherever he went! God bless his memory!

My prayers and condolences to LaWanda and family!

You will be so missed Pastor Rex.  You were like a brother to me.  So many sad tears but tears of joy knowing you are singing with the angels and leading the choir. So many good memories you leave me with.
Rex and I go back over 60 years. We attended Washington Junior High School together, as well as Augustana College (both in Rock Island, Illinois). My only regret is that having been out of the USA for almost all of the past 53 years we have had relatively little opportunity to be together - always following each other from afar. He was a great man, a great brother and a great achiever for God.

I remember the early morning of my fifth birthday. I heard the car door slam and saw that it was my Dad, Rex, coming home after driving all night to get back in time. I ran out the front door and saw him, standing in his over cart, unloading the car. His face was red and puffy. He was sniffling, sneezing, and snotting. When I came to him, he enveloped me. Then leaning down, he pulled something small and moving from his pocket. A siamese kitten. A cat! Something I had always wanted, but hadn't gotten, yet. For one reason. My dad was allergic to them. He handed me this gift, that he had brought home, driving through the night, in a sealed car. He suffered through, to make sure a little 5 year old boy felt loved. What a dad!
