Rena Alfreda Johns, age 95, passed away very peacefully on November 25, 2024 in Cutler Bay, FL. Rena was born in 1929 in New York City to Herbert and Jeannie (Cunningham) Shogren. Rena, her parents, and younger sister Barbara lived in NYC until the family moved to Palmyra, NY when Rena was in 8th Grade, and there she met her future husband, Frederick Johns. Rena obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Rochester and worked for Kodak. She and Fred married and moved to Niagara Falls, NY where Rena continued to work until her first pregnancy required her to stop working due to company policy. As an adult, she acquired more family when her mother married Mark Schroeder after her father passed away. Her new step-siblings were Jerry Schroeder and Caryl Brax. Once she had children, she was an at-home Mom, superb homemaker, charitable volunteer, and flower show competitor as Fred’s career took them to Wilmington DE, Metarie LA, Chadds Ford PA, and Howell MI. Once the kids were grown, she worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block. It was perfect for her because tax season ended before Rena and Fred’s beloved sailing season around the Great Lakes. They retired to Clearwater FL and were very busy with volunteering, community events, sailing, square dancing, visiting and hosting family and friends, and traveling the world. After Fred passed away, she moved to the Miami FL area to be near her son and to stay out of the cold north. She is survived by her children Dave (Amy) of Traverse City MI, Bill (Libby) of Palmetto Bay FL, and Karen (Tim) Brandon of Lexington MI, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother-in-law Dick Johns, sister-in-law Betty Schroeder, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her memorial service is planned for July 28 in Palmyra NY where she is to be buried with her husband.
