Vi's obituary

We mournfully announce the passing of Relda "Vi" Gamble, better known as Vi, who left us on January 28, 2024, after a blessed life that started on January 3, 1929. Always the life of the party, Vi won the hearts of everyone with her patient, outgoing, warm, and funny personality. She left behind a legacy of kindness and generosity, etched into the hearts of those lucky enough to encounter her.

Vi is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Kathy Heyman, her son-in-law, John Heyman, and her grandchildren, Erin Grimes, Melissa Beckman, Allyson Beckman, Amanda Beckman, Emily Beckman, Bob Beckman, Rob Grimes, and Robin Grimes. She was predeceased by her husband, Lesley Gamble, whom she married in 1957 and their love remained a beacon of inspiration through the years. Vi was predeceased by her mother and father, Hettie and Lewis Davenport, her sisters Stella Hurt, Rosie "Skeeter" Reed, Ida Rose, Dorothy Schoonover, and Lela Mae Campbell, and her brothers William, James "Andy", Lloyd, Norman, Lester, and Carl Davenport.

Vi had a passion for life and made the most out of every moment. She had an eclectic selection of favorite foods, ranging from Fritos, Mexican food to blueberry donuts. She loved her salty dog drink and took comfort from reading The Bible. Vi was a fan of Frank Sinatra, enjoyed watching Matlock and Anne of Green Gables.

Vi had a unique eye for art, with a particular affection for pieces featuring frogs and glitter. She was a formidable opponent at Canasta, Chinese Checkers, and Wheel of Fortune. She loved watching middle school track meets and had a rather unusual recreational activity – shooting woodpeckers that pecked the side of her house. She was also fond of sweeping pine needles off her roof and walking, in order to keep fit.

Vi found joy in her surroundings, with the lounge chair on her deck being a favorite local spot. Her favored vacation destination was Hawaii, a place she found serene and delightful. She enjoyed the beauty of South Florida sunsets and showed deep care for her daughter, who was always close to her heart.

Vi Gamble lived a full life, embraced the world with an open heart, and splashed her journey with beautiful memories. Her laughter, warmth, and love will continue to resonate in the lives of those she touched. Her spirit remains a radiant sunbeam even as she embarks on her next journey.
