Rebecca's obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Rebecca "Becky" Johnson, a beloved woman known for her kind, loving, friendly, generous, and community-oriented spirit. Born in 1953, Rebecca departed peacefully on December 27, 2025, leaving a void in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched.

Rebecca was a woman of strength and determination. Despite life's many challenges, she never strayed from the golden rule: to treat others how you would want to be treated. This principle guided her interactions and relationships — a testament to her innate kindness and generosity.

One of Rebecca's most impressive accomplishments was becoming the first person in her family to graduate from a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) at the age of 65. This achievement showcased her unwavering determination and commitment to personal growth, encouraging countless individuals in her community to pursue their dreams regardless of their age or circumstances.

Rebecca is proceeded in death by parents Ophelia and Richard Johnson Jr. and sister Annie Pete Richardson and survived by sister Olivia Johnson and  brother in law Vernon Richardson.  She is survived by her loving daughters Regena Brown and Reshard Riggins and son-in-law David Brown, a grandson, and granddaughter.  Her loving family included a niece, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and extended family both traditional and nontraditional. She was a beacon of love, kindness, and consideration, and her memory will be fondly remembered and honored by her family, friends, and community. Her legacy will continue to inspire and remind us of the importance of love, empathy, and community engagement.

Rebecca's enduring love, kindness, and consideration for others serve as an enduring legacy. Her loss will be deeply felt by her family, friends, and community members, who will recognize her for the love she strongly demonstrated throughout her life and the kindness she consistently showed towards everyone she encountered.

Rebecca will be dearly missed, yet her spirit will live on through the many lives she positively impacted. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the rich and fulfilling life she led, filled with love, kindness, and a deep sense of community.
