In Loving Memory of Ralph Eugene Dustman (Dusty)
November 17, 1946 - May 23, 2023
Ralph Eugene Dustman, affectionately known as Dusty, touched the lives of many during his journey through life. With heavy hearts, we announce his passing on May 23, 2023, in Cocoa, Florida, surrounded by his beloved wife and children.
Dusty was born on November 17, 1946, in Auburn, NY, to Josephine Geary Dustman and Byron Eugene Dustman. He grew up in a loving home, filled with the values of compassion, hard work, and service to others that would shape his remarkable life. Dusty pursued his passion for hospitality, obtaining a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Syracuse University. In the midst of the Vietnam War, Dusty proudly served his country in Germany. Following his honorable service, Dusty relocated to Northern California, where he embarked on a new chapter of his life. It was in Los Angeles that Dusty encountered the love of his life, Edith Woollett. The two souls instantly connected, and a year later, they exchanged vows, entering into a 50 plus year marriage. Dusty and Edith's journey led them to Lancaster, California, where they welcomed their precious daughter, Kymberli Marie. Later, they moved to Alta Loma, California, and their family grew to include their beloved son, Brian Eugene. Driven by his passion for education, Dusty pursued further studies at Chaffey College and Cal State San Bernardino, earning a Masters Degree. He embarked on a fulfilling career as a math teacher at AB Miller, Fontana, and Chaffey High Schools in California leaving an indelible impact on the countless young minds he nurtured and inspired. Upon retiring from his teaching career, Dusty and Edith sought a peaceful existence in Custer, South Dakota, where they became deeply involved in the Lions Club. Their shared commitment to service led them to establish a LEOS club, providing a platform for school-aged children to contribute positively to their community. Dusty cherished his involvement in both the Lions Club and the LEOS club, recognizing the profound impact they had on those they served. Eventually, health challenges necessitated a move to a lower elevation, and Dusty and Edith settled in Cocoa, Florida.
Dusty was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine, his father, Byron, and his beloved grandson, Scot Allen. He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and dedication that will endure for generations to come. Dusty is survived by his adoring wife, Edith, their daughter Kymberli, their son Brian, grandsons Christopher Allen, Gavin Allen, Kaiden Dustman, and granddaughter Annika Dustman.
A service honoring Dusty's life will be held in August in Cocoa, Florida, where family, and friends, will gather.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Dusty's name to the Custer Lions Club. (Lona Faaborg, Treasurer 25861 US Hwy 385, Custer, SD 57730)
