Raymond “Ray” Shelmire was born in Abington Township Pennsylvania. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was deployed onboard the U.S.S. Willard Keith. As a Gunners Mate, Ray gathered valuable experiences which he carried with him throughout his life. After leaving the Navy, Ray married Lois Jean Saylor and went to work for Rocketdyne in CA. …
