Raymond's obituary
Raymond Hayward Hopson, Jr. was born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 30, 1941. Raymond H. Hopson, Sr. and June E. Wright Hopson (both deceased) welcomed him into the world. As a result of the spiritual training he received from them, Raymond was baptized at the age of 12 and joined First Baptist Church of Penn Hills under the leadership of Pastor Eugene Roberts. After moving to Southfield, MI he joined Victory Way C.O.G.I.C. He also attended Rose City Community Church, Canada, under the leadership of Pastor Glenn Taylor. He was passionate about feeding the homeless and helping the less fortunate. He burned, packaged, promoted, and mailed CDs for the Battle-Ready Prayer project worldwide.
Raymond graduated from Penn Hills Senior High School and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He then received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education at West Virginia State College. Later he received a Master's Plus Degree in Special Education from Wayne State University. He also earned a real estate and life insurance license.
He taught in the Pittsburgh Public School System before moving to Detroit, MI. There Raymond worked as a foreman at Ford Motor Company before becoming a Management Consultant at Alexander Proudfoot traveling around the country advising companies on how to become more productive. Later Raymond became an educator and Department Head at Pershing High School. After retirement, he returned to academia as a consultant.
He leaves to celebrate his life: his wife Joy A. Walker Hopson; Sons, Raymond III (Lesley) and Aaron (Julia); his grandchildren, Raymond IV, Andrew, Aaron, Jr., Zachary, and Charity; his brothers and sisters, Richard (Malvane), June, Jewel, and Robert; his aunt, Sadie Wright Moore; brothers and sisters in law, Frank (Debbie), Lawrence, Zeke, Brenda, and Judy. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, former students, co-workers, and friends will remember the tremendous, love, kindness, and patience he always had for others.
