Raymond's obituary

On September 28, 1958 at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, a child named Raymond Dunn was born to his parents Alfred Dunn Sr. and Ruth E. Miller. In 1969 the family moved to Los Angeles, California where Raymond spent most of his childhood.

At the age of 17, Raymond joined the United States Army and rose up in the ranks to become a Sergeant First Class. After many years of service, he retired from active duty and went on to spend many more years serving in the Army Reserves. Raymond was a decorated veteran who spent his adult life serving his country. Although he was stationed in Tacoma, Washington, Raymond traveled all over the world, fought in several wars and courageously dedicated his life to protecting his fellow citizens.

Shortly after joining the army, Raymond met and married his wife Lou Ann Gutierrez. They remained married for 30 plus years until her passing in 2016. Raymond had a passion for bowling. Having joined many leagues over the years, he won several trophies and multiple rings. He also enjoyed washing and detailing his car. Raymond jogged every morning and by evening, he could be found watching one of his favorite shows or pro golf with his buddy Capt. Morgan. Ray loved a good burger with fries or a good steak with a baked potato. His favorite cereal was frosted flakes with a little added sugar! Known as “Ray” to his friends and neighbors, he was a polite gentlemen who frequently walked his dog before sunrise and greeted those he met along the way. Ray liked to joke with and tease his friends. If he teased you and gave you a hard time, it was because he considered you a friend. At work Ray was tough and was known to play hardball, but he genuinely loved his job and the soldiers he worked with.

In January, 2021 Sergeant First Class Raymond Dunn passed away peacefully at his home in Tacoma, Washington. Raymond was predeceased by his wife, Lou Ann Dunn, his mother Ruth E. Miller, Father Alfred Dunn Sr. Three sisters Vivian L. Young, Audrey L. Moody and Pauline I. Dunn. Raymond is survived by one daughter, Josie Dunn, one sister Kamari Muhammad (Imari Muhammad) and two brothers Alfred Dunn Jr. and Warren Miller and a host of family and friends.

The family is prayerful and grateful to all those who reached out and those who held them in their thoughts and prayers. Peace and Blessings.
