Slavo's obituary

Rastislav "Slavo" John Staron, a devoted father, husband, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026.

Slavo was born on June 26, 1940, in Slovakia. In 1968, he made the decision to move to Canada in search of new opportunities and a better future. He met his future wife, Anna, in Slovakia, and a year later she joined him in Canada, where they began building their life together. Together, they eventually made their way to British Columbia, settling in North Vancouver, where they created a home filled with love, stability, and lasting memories.

With determination and quiet strength, Slavo established himself in Vancouver as an engineer, earning the respect of colleagues through his intelligence, work ethic, and unwavering integrity. He approached his work the same way he approached life - with discipline, pride, and a deep sense of responsibility.

In his younger years, Slavo was a passionate and competitive runner in Europe - a reflection of the drive and resilience that would define him throughout his life. He carried that same commitment forward, always valuing staying active, spending time outdoors, and living a healthy, purposeful life.

Slavo was a man of strong principles - honest, loyal, and steady. He was not one to seek attention or speak loudly, but his presence was always felt. He led by example, showing his love through quiet acts, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to his family. He took pride in living life on his own terms and remained independent right to the very end - a reflection of the strength that defined him.

At the center of his life was his beloved wife, Anna. Their bond was deep and enduring, built on partnership and a lifetime of shared experiences. There is comfort in knowing they are now reunited.

He will be deeply missed by his son, Thomas, who will forever carry forward his father’s strength, values, and example. The lessons Slavo passed on will continue to guide him and live on through him.

Though his passing leaves a profound void, there is peace in knowing he lived a full and meaningful life, true to himself until the very end. His quiet strength, steady presence, and unwavering character will be remembered always.

A service to honour Slavo’s life will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on April 30, 2026 at 11:00am, followed by a celebration of life at Grouse Mountain in the Timber Room at 1:00pm. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and share in remembering his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
