RaSheedah El-Amin was born June 2nd, 1969 in Chicago, IL. Her birth name was Recena Dawson. Recena was named in memory of her aunt who passed away at the tender age of two years old. Later, her parents wanted a family name to identify with their religious beliefs and chose the surname of El-Amin.
