In the summer of 68, me, Randy, Joe Padley and Rabbit were staying at a big cottage at Atlantic Beach with Walter and Juanita. One night Randy stayed up half the night meticulously melting wax for his surfboard. When he finally fell asleep Rabbit squirted baby oil all over the freshly waxed board. The next morning we all hit the beach near Salter Path for sun, surf and cold beer. Randy went running out in the water with his board and waited for the right wave, caught it, jumped up on his board and immediately slipped and hit the water hard. When he got out he could tell by Rabbit's look who the culprit was. He didn't say much but he had that -- Just you wait, look. The following morning Rabbit had to head back to Grifton. It was going to be a 100 degree day. Randy got up really early and found some cat crap that had just been buried, dug it up and put it under Rabbit's back seat. About New Bern, Rabbit starting smelling something horrible. He pulled over and looked under the hood, under the car and everywhere he could think of and couldn't find anything. It got hotter and hotter and the smell got worse and worse. It took Rabbit a good day and a half to locate the cat crap. Five got the last laugh on that one!

It is with much sadness that I say goodbye to a good friend that I have know most of my life. Randy was a true trend setter ahead of his time, yet he was such with such a kind and caring soul for everyone. All who knew Randy had the utmost respect for him and when Randy became your friend, you earned a good friend for life. Oh and yes he loved the '55 Chevy and especially the Nomad model. I salute Randy for his commitment and long career with the United States Air Force. Randy has a beautiful and loving family and he seemed to have found his true happy place back in Idaho. To all of his loved ones, my heart breaks for all of you because I know how much he loved all of you and how much you loved him. May God grace each of you with understanding, peace and the wonderful memories that you have. Celebrate the amazing life and love that he shared with each of you.
