Yesterday was also my birthday and I spent time reflecting on how much I enjoyed working with Ralph. He was my first track/field director and his professionalism was extremely helpful. A great man lost way too soon.
i just found out about ralph's passing.  he was such a great pro!  i worked with him in the 1970's on many racing shows from aqueduct, belmont, roosevelt and yonkers.  then he directed one of the first breeders' cup live 5 hour broadcasts, that year from churchill downs, which was a great success---because of ralph.  a great loss for the industry and personally for those who knew and appreciated him.

So sorry to hear of the passing of creative genius Ralph Mole'. He was my mentor. I learned so much from Ralph. He was the reason I started Masters Entertainment Group.  A loss to TV entertainment.

Ted Jones, Masters Enterment Group

I knew Ralph through Sandra and her family and he gave me my first job in television production through his successful Windfall Productions! I learned a lot and worked on a number of sports related filming events including the US Open tennis tournament in his native Queens. He was extremely talented, hardworking and well respected in the industry. I even spent nights editing with him in the studio where he would work through the night and never get tired! Personally he was  charming, fun, worldly and had a great smile.  It’s so hard to believe he joined his beloved Sandra so soon but I feel she was waiting for him.  Lots of love to Brett & Todd whose parents were so proud  of them— may you get through this tough time with love and faith and beautiful memories.

I had only one opportunity to work with Ralph. He directed the NBC coverage of the wrestling competitions at the Seoul Olympics as I produced. One of the most rewarding production experiences of my career. Always tried to grab lunch with him in NYC when in town in later years. He was a real raconteur in the best sense of the term. RIP.

This news just arrived and it is so difficult to hear.  My sincere condolences to Ralph's family at the passing of this great individual.  And what an individual he was... Ralph seemed to possess boundless energy.  After directing countless runs down a ski hill, he'd be ready to grab dinner - always with a bottle of good wine (Silverado!) - then off to a jam session with the mountain crew.  It was impossible to keep up with him.  I spent many years sitting along side Ralph in various cold mobile units in many mountain towns and he was always the center that keep the team together.  Ever in the lead all the way - be it the highest production standards, classic quips, exceptional music choices, or good food - Ralph's energy and dedication to excellence were apparent at all times.  It was just a part of who he was.  Rest in Peace, Ralph.
Ralph Molé - An amazing television perfectionist. Spent 40 hours sitting in front of a 1" VTR in the machine room at ESPN in 1979 watching playback,  learning how he called live tennis so I could be his AD. Much respect. Rest in peace.

To the Family of Ralph J. Mole:

On behalf of the Administration, Faculty and Staff of Queens College, please accept our  sincere condolences on your loss.

May he Rest in Peace

I came to Tenafly to do work for ESPN at the studios for figure skating commentary countless times and Ralph was always caring, kind and genuine. One of the best people I have met in sports television.

I had the pleasure of working with Ralph.

He is and was a great human being

Very sad to hear this.  Ralph was a constant presence in the very early days of ESPN and his many contributions helped to keep us moving in the right direction when every day was a new adventure.  My condolences to his family.
Ralph was an amazing person. I am lucky to have known him and worked with him. His work ethic, music interests, and life paths are all things I identified with. He made me a better person, and I am honored to say I knew him. My sincere condolences to all his family and friends. Cancer sucks.
We worked closely with Ralph who produced/directed many of our indoor track meets on ESPN.  He worked hard and always had a good team around him on the events.  Some of the telecasts were exceptional, award winning,  and we were proud to work with Ralph over the years!  May you Rest In Peace and see many a race from Above.  Don Franken

2 days since I learned of Ralph's passing...what to say. Having spent a many days and nights traveling with Ralph, I learned a lot from him, inside and outside the live production truck.  Having a small packaging/ production company like Windfall, Ralph always lended advice here and there on the business of the business. His love of fine food, wine and music was a common thread... and a core love of directing/producing live events.

Condolences Brett and Todd on the loss of your dad and mom.

 RIP Ralph & Sandra

Ralph was a legendary director who always showed us the way it should be done, the Mole’ way. It was a pleasure to have worked with him thru the early ESPN days and for years after. If you were lucky enough to have some time at the end of an event, you might get a chance to see him get his guitar out. That was and will remain a highlight.

Godspeed Ralph… you left a legacy.

I am truly sorry to his family… he was one of the greats.

Heartfelt condolences and so shortly after the passing of his lovely wife … Ralph was one of a kind and am blessed to have worked with him on several projects in this crazy world of sports
Ralph was a one-of-a-kind guy who did seat-of-the-pants television better than anyone I've ever been around  I feel lucky to have done tons of shows, in tons of sports, in tons of places around the world with him.  What I'll miss most is the tons of laughs.  He'll be sorely missed.
Like many others here, I worked many events with Ralph-  track and field, the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, extreme sports.  He was a such a kind and talented man with a beautiful family that he appreciated and treasured. This tragic news saddens me, but I pray that he is in a much better place now and it warms my heart to see how much the people in our business loved him.
Ralph was a fearsome talent, in every sense, motivating you to go above and beyond because woe to the poor crewie who flubbed a graphic, upcut a mic, or punched the wrong camera. He was fond of telling camera ops that “Focus is not an option,” how could it be when he was so laser-focused on turning in a great show? If you could meet his high expectations and survive his withering barbs you earned a lifelong champion with a heart of gold. I am sorry to see that he is gone, and my heart goes out to his family and friends, but he lives on the legendary stories from those who had the honor and pleasure of working with him.

Ralph was a pioneer in so many ways. I was lucky to know and work with him from the world of pro beach volleyball back in the 1980’s ans 90’s. Learned so much from his work, and always admired him. My deepest condolences to all his friends and family.

Ralph was "one of a kind."  We all have colorful memories and stories of working with Ralph. No one could top Ralph for his creativity, drive for perfection, and his excellent directing skills. He was always looking for a unique way to cover the event. He was amazing at how many "balls" he could juggle.  He was the fastest talker in the business and had such a way with words :) His life was rich and full and never a dull moment.  Nobody could do "overnight" sessions like Ralph.  We love you Ralph and you will be missed dearly.  May you rest in peace!

Ralph gave a midwestern girl a chance with the big dawgs, as he would say.  Windfall was one of my first freelance clients and Ralph and I worked together for 10 years.  He was a passionate man that knew what he wanted and how to get the most out of you.  He was loyal to people that were loyal to him.  Ralph was funny, with a good sense of humor, and generally cared for those he held close.   His repertoire on the headset was part of his charm, never remembering what he said to you or anyone else after the show.  He would wrap the show up with a big smile, hug, and a thank you no matter what.  There were no others like him and he will truly be missed.  Rest now Ralph, with your beautiful wife, and we will be comforted that you are in the nearer presence of God.
