Ralph's obituary
Ralph "RD" Daugherty, aged 58, passed away on August 18, 2024, at his home in Lancaster, Ohio. Born on May 24, 1966, Ralph was the first in his family to graduate from high school. He was a member of the Lancaster High School Class of 1984 and a dedicated Army Ranger, a testament to his love for his country. He often referred to military service as, “writing a blank check up to, and including, the cost of your life, and giving it to your country”.
Ralph was a known Boy Scout Leader for Troop 106, where he guided many young men with service in mind. Ralph's hobbies included mechanical work with a variety of vehicles, collecting guns, and taking his kids to target practice. His dream was to restore his original Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible, which he still owned to the day that he died. He is known as a helper to others, offering them whatever he could, whether it was a place to stay, fixing a part on their car, or giving advice (even if it wasn’t always warranted). He had a deep affection for his dogs, considering them part of his extended family and often referred to them as his “other kids”.
Ralph lived his life for his family, the best way he knew how. He is survived by his children, Jason (Allie) Daugherty, Tiffany Johnston, Cassandra (Jack) Berry, and Casey (Marissa) Daugherty; siblings, Lillian (Allen) Longtine, David Black, Cheri (Dave) Shrider, Dale Lee (Mike) Sherrill, Rose Bojanowski, and Jodi Daugherty; grandchildren Isabel, Blanton, Natalie, and Michael; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant twin sister, DeVonna Sue Daugherty, a nephew, and his parents.
An informal memorial to honor Ralph's life will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Lancaster Vineyard Church, 431 Whiley Road Southwest, in Lancaster, Ohio. Friends and family may visit any time between 2:00pm and 5:00pm to gather, share a meal, and exchange their favorite memory about Ralph. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Fairfield Area Humane Society. A burial will take place at a later date where Ralph will be laid to rest with his twin sister, DeVonna Sue. His legacy of service, both to his community and country, will be remembered by all who knew him.
