Buzz's obituary
Ralph “Buzz” Arney passed away in Bend, Oregon on May 12, 2024. He was 80 years old.
Ralph was the 2nd of 5 children, born Nov. 21, 1943 in Aberdeen to Martha and James
Arney. He was active in boy scouts, football and wrestled in the state championship for
Bremerton’s West High School, prior to graduating in 1962. After graduating from WSU
in 1967 with a pharmacy degree, Ralph met Patricia Neihart and married her on April 6,
1968.
After time in the Army, Ralph moved to the Silver Lake area of Everett with Patti, where
they had 3 sons, Paul, Doug, and Todd. They first opened The Prescription Shoppe,
then Silver Lake Pharmacy and Gifts. Buzz made time to get away with his family, either
to his parent’s cabin on Mason Lake or to the annual family reunion at his Uncle Fred’s.
Ralph was a charter member of the Everett Rotary and enjoyed jogging, golfing and
physical labor. He found time to volunteer at a local food bank and St. Vincent de Paul.
He accepted everyone as they were, and especially enjoyed engaging with children with
his talent for making faces and his trademark Donald Duck voice.
After retiring, Ralph worked part-time at Mill Creek Pharmacy, and Buzz was able to
continue to do what he loved…being the trusted guy at a community pharmacy. He
went on hunting trips with his brothers, he and Patti traveled to Italy and spent time with
their new grandchildren, but she died of brain cancer too soon. The last few years of
Ralph’s life were spent in a retirement home in Bend, OR, where he met many people
that saw the old ‘Buzzie Bear’ for his kindness and sincerity despite his challenges.
Buzz is survived by his sons, Paul, Doug and Todd, his grandchildren, Spencer, Sahalie,
Victor, Alea and Oren, his siblings Mike, Tom and Nancy as well as the extended Arney
and Wylam families he was so proud to be a part of.
Memorial Service held on Friday, July 26 at 1pm Our Lady of Hope Chapel, 2617 Cedar
St in Everett with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to
Everett Rotary.
