It has taken me a while to post my condolences to Raice’s family because this hits me way too close to home. I met Raice when I started working in the ER at AGH in 2019 and he quickly became one of my coworkers that I felt completely at ease around when working with him. I knew I could joke around with him and he wouldn’t get mad at anything I said or did to him. Whenever Raice was working, it didn’t matter to what of the ER I was assigned to, I would always wind up standing over by him next to the candy drawer to say something totally inappropriate to him or tease him about something.

Every day that I worked and if it was around 5pm I would start looking around to see if Raice was walking into the department. Sometimes, if I didn’t see him come in and I was sitting at a computer he would sneak up behind me and then stick his finger in my ear! I would quickly turn around and then I would see  that it was Raice and he would have that goofy grin on his face as if to say, “Ha-Ha, I got you!”

It has been very weird at work not seeing Raice sitting in his normal spot next to the candy drawer and knowing that he won’t be there ever again.

I loved Raice like a brother and my heart goes out to all of his family and friends during this heartbreaking situation. 💔

I just found out about this today. I can’t even express the shock I felt. My first reaction was “Noooo!” How can there be a world without this human?! I met Raice (or as I called him, “Rice” as it sounds with my Texas drawl) while working as a travel nurse in the ER at AGH Laveen. I felt like it took forever to learn his name (even as unique as it was).  But when I did, he made sure that I would never forget it! He was a character for sure! He was always laughing & had something to say about everything. Work was never work when he was around. And, omg, if I’d so much as put a finger on the candy drawer next to him, we’d be fighting like two 5-year-old girls! Lol! He had a terrible habit of not locking his phone. Several of us were sure to remind him by taking unsolicited, but goofy work selfies with his phone. He had a great way with patients, too! Raice always made patients feel comfortable and heard. This earth has definitely lost a good one way too soon! “Rice,” I know I’ll see that darlin smile again one day! Til then, I’ll take all the AlmondJoys for now!” Goodbye, friend! 💛

I only worked with you about 8 months, but it was awesome getting to know and working with you you during that time. I appreciate the advice and guidance you gave me.  You were an awesome coworker and provider,  so helpful, so friendly, always smiling. It was great working with you for that short time!

My good buddy, Raice! I’ll miss you brother!! Rest In Peace carnal!
Thankful to know Raice as a friend and work with him in the ED! Was a great guy and always had great energy! Gone way too soon. Rest In Peace. Thoughts go out to the family!

Finding the right thing to say here is impossible!

Twenty years ago when I first met Raice we were just starting out in our careers. Although he was a year behind me in school he was light years ahead of me in so many ways. He taught me so much about life and was the greatest example of the life you want to live. Working and growing with him was the greatest, and through that we became forever friends. There is not a person who came in contact with Raice that was not positively impacted by his presence. He was such a solid person, that even though we didn't talk often, when we did it was as if we had just spoken yesterday. His strong heart and unwavering smile will forever hold a special place in my heart. My heart goes out to you Rick, and Katie!

Raice was fun to be around. We shared more than workspace, we are birthday twins. May his family find peace. Rest well dear. ♥️

My deepest condolences go out to the Nelson family. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each of them during my time with Raice. While life took us separate directions, I will always cherish our time together and know he touched many peoples lives and saved a ton of lives also doing what he loves. You were taken way too soon. You will be missed
