Rachel's obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rachel "Rae" Lyons on April 18, 2025. Born on October 5, 1940, Rachel was a beacon of compassion, love, and kindness, leaving behind a legacy of family unity and respect for all.
Rachel was predeceased by her loving husbands, Palmer Lister, Melvin Lyons, and her son, Raymond “Brett” Lister.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Wendy Watters, her son-in-law, Scott Watters, her beloved grandsons, Ryan & Eric Gabriel, and her cherished granddaughter, Carly Gabriel. The love she carried for her family was unparalleled, her children and grandchildren held in the highest degree of her heart.
Rachel's life was a testament to simplicity and contentment. Her favorite foods were homemade yogurt, pizza, and hot wings, often enjoyed while watching her favorite TV shows on the Cooking Network. Her preferred drinks were an ice-cold lemonade. Her taste in music ranged from the timeless charm of Elvis to the soulful Baptist hymns she held dear.
She found joy and relaxation in bird watching and cooking. Her spirit of enthusiasm found its expression in playing games like Monopoly, and strolls in the outdoors for her exercise. The mountains were her favored vacation spots, a quiet testament to her love for tranquility and natural splendor.
Her personality was an embodiment of kindness and compassion. Her life lessons were profound yet simple, the most vital one being to "Love the Lord our God with all thy heart." Rachel cared deeply about philanthropic causes, particularly St. Jude Children’s Hospital, extending her love and care beyond her immediate family into the world at large.
Her legacy will remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Her love for her family, her respect for others, and her dedication to living a life of love and kindness will be her enduring gift to the world. She will be deeply missed but her spirit will live on in the lessons she taught and the love she shared.
