R Henry's obituary
On April 25, 2024, Rufus “Henry” Lindsey, Jr., beloved husband of 33 years with Rebecca Debner Lindsey, devoted father of Jerome Hicks, Richard Lindsey (Rue Anh Lindsey), and Stephanie Lindsey Rocque (Marc Rocque), loving brother of George Lindsey (Donna Smith Lindsey), and Grandpère of Megan Hicks and Ariana Hicks (Jerome) and Jacquelyn Rocque (Stephanie and Marc); also survived by nieces Abigail Walton (Derek Walton, grandnephews Gavin and Oliver), Sarah Debner (Mark Debner), nephews Scott Lindsey (Mary Lindsey, grandniece Sophia), Joshua Debner (Samantha Cassady, grandnephew Declan) and many other family members.
Henry, from Mobile, Alabama, graduated from Murphy High School in 1975. He loved his two ’57 Chevys and 1923 Ford Roadster, participating in many car shows. He loved baseball and coached Babe Ruth Baseball for many years in Mobile, his team participated in the Little League World Series in 1990. Henry loved collecting marbles and Christmas nutcrackers and completing the daily crossword in pen. Henry loved singing in the choir at church and praising God. He especially enjoyed singing with the contemporary band. He moved with his wife to Baltimore, Maryland and began a career as a civilian employee with the Maryland State Police. Henry overcame many health challenges early in life that affected his health later. These health challenges caused him to understand the possibility of his mortality early in life. Knowing this, he lived each day fully and confidently. His selfless love of others was profound. Henry made everyone feel at home. He welcomed many into his life and redefined what it meant to be family. To Henry, what mattered was your heart, and nothing more. He had a gift to see the best in others and then helped others see that in themselves. Henry had a giving and generous spirit. He knew what mattered in life was not possessions but loving and caring for others. He walked through life living the scripture John 13:34-35 to love one another. His quick wit, faith, and love of his family guided all he was.
