Pulchery's obituary
Pulchery Jenifer Thelusma, 37, of Ijamsville, MD, passed away on April 20, 2024, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Pulchery was born on a snowy Tuesday afternoon on January 20, 1987, to Yves-Rose and Merius Thelusma in Largo, MD. She was a radiant, determined daughter and sister who saw the world with awe and was resolute in leaving her mark through thoughtful acts of kindness and generosity. In her teenage years, she blossomed into a considerate and compassionate young woman—effortlessly offering her support to anyone who needed it.
After graduating from Archbishop Carroll High School in 2005, Pulchery was granted a prestigious scholarship to Georgetown University. Her academic prowess shone brightly, and she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology in 2009. Driven by her passion for community and people, she continued her studies at The George Washington University, where she furthered her studies and obtained her Master of Arts in Education and Human Development in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2013. This marked the beginning of her career in Clinical Counseling, where she guided her clients toward mental health empowerment.
Among her many achievements, Pulchery’s most significant source of pride and joy was her role as a mother. On December 27, 2015, she welcomed her son Theo into the world, and from that moment, her life was dedicated to him. Her strength and love were unwavering, and she was always there for him in every possible way.
Pulchery was a beam of light that shone in any room she walked in. She deeply loved her family and friends, always encouraging them to practice self-care--sometimes one would find a care package in the mail from her, with a simple card to say she was thinking about you. She had an eye for beauty, was always fashionable (in purple or sparkles, if possible), and loved dance and fitness. Her vivacity was infectious, and her enveloping warmth made it easy for anyone to share their troubles, hopes, and dreams.
Pulchery was preceded in death by her father, Merius Thelusma, and grandmother, Yolande Pulchery Garcon. Her legacy lives on through her beloved son, Theo Kwasi Afoakwah. She was a pillar of strength and love to her family, survived by her loving mother, Yves-Rose Thelusma; her dear brother, Theard Maret Thelusma and his wife, Kelly Thelusma; her cherished niece, Aria Helen Thelusma; her adored nephew, Griffin Merius Thelusma and her large community of devoted uncles, aunts, cousins, and beloved friends.
Pulchery’s life, though brief, was filled with beauty and purpose. She has left an indelible mark in the hearts and minds of those who knew her, who will forever cherish her bright, perpetual smile, pure heart, and endless light and memory. While the world has lost a beautiful soul, heaven has gained a remarkable angel.
The family will hold a small, intimate service on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Going Home Cremation & Funeral Care, 519 Mabe Dr., Woodbine, MD.
