Nanny's obituary
On February 26, 2026, Priscilla Kay Barnes, known to many as “Nanny,” passed away peacefully in her bed at the age of 73. She is survived by her two children, Kari and LaDonna (Reneé); her siblings Bud, Jean, Mary (Rick), Wayne, Geri, and Freda (Harold); her grandchildren Jade, Tinsley, Brandon, Tiger (Jessi), Leslie (Joni), and Kayla; and her great-grandchildren Atlas, Silas, Marlee, and Jamal. She also leaves behind an abundance of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will never forget her. She was preceded in death by her sisters Betty and Gale, whom she now joins in the Lord’s house.
Born on January 3, 1953, in Martinsville, Indiana, Kay lived a life defined by her commitment to God. Anyone who knew her could see how closely she walked with Christ. Her faith was not quiet or passive, it shaped her decisions, her home, and her relationships. She studied scripture faithfully, and she sought to strengthen her understanding of God’s truth throughout her life. Her devotion to the Lord was evident in the way she gave of herself freely, often offering her time, her energy, and even her home, asking little in return. Her devotion to family meant that every relative felt her presence. She was a kind and attentive mother not only to her own children, but to many others who found guidance, correction, and love under her roof. She had strong convictions, and stood firmly by her beliefs. When Nanny made up her mind, the river would change its course before she would.
Kay found joy in life’s simple pleasures; quiet country mornings, time spent in the Word, laughter with family, and sitting down with a cup of coffee and cookies. She carried pride in her roots, and remained a steady connection to the family’s southern heritage. Her influence stretches across generations, and her prayers will continue to follow her family for the rest of their lives.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 21, 2026, from 2:00–5:00 PM at Life Pointe Community Church, 825 Indiana Street, Mooresville, Indiana
