So sorry to hear of the passing of Pirooz and my deepest condolences to his spouse and family. I was the roommate of his brother, Parviz, at University of Detroit just after they both came to the U.S. to matriculate at U of D. As an awkward, lonely freshman who knew no one at U of D, both Parviz and Pirooz invited me to weekly dinners with them and their Iranian friends and shared so many wonderful stories of their parents and of growing up in Tehran. They would "tutor" me in Farsi while I would help them with their English. I always thought that they got the better end of that deal until coincidentally many, many years later I had to spend a year learning Farsi before living in that part of the world for a second time. Although I have often thought of both Pirooz and Parviz over the years, one of my sincerest regrets is not tracking them down to catch up after so many years. Their many kindnesses towards me and so many others as well as their courage, generosity, and determination left a lasting impression on me I'll forever have fond memories of Pirooz, Parviz, and the small group of their Persian friends who despite their own challenges with adjusting to life in a new and difficult environment made my life so much richer at U of D.
