Phyllis Ann Whitten was born to Leona Dupuis and Freddy Leblanc in Port Elgin, New Brunswick, Canada on January 30th, 1938. She was the oldest of four children (Paul, Gary, and Lorraine). At the age of 14, Phyllis was diagnosed with a degenerative disease that caused her to be wheelchair bound for the next several years of her life.
