Phyllis's obituary
Phyllis Elaine Kirk (née Luckinbill) died peacefully at her home in St. Clair, Missouri, on July 11, 2025. She was 77 years old.
Born January 29, 1948, to Lyle Luckinbill and Edith Melissa Ober Luckinbill on the family farm near Bloomfield, Nebraska, Phyllis was the fifth of seven children. She grew up helping on the farm and sharing the harvest her family raised.
Phyllis graduated from nursing school in 1969 and served as a dedicated nurse for over 25 years. A lifelong Baptist, she was always active in her church communities, most recently at Harvest Baptist Church in St. Clair. It was at a church camp where she met her future husband, Charles (Chuck) Kirk.
After her husband's passing, Phyllis returned to school in her 50s and earned a degree in Christian Ministries with a minor in Women’s Ministries from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Deeply devoted to her children, Phyllis volunteered with the Girl Scouts and served as a camp nurse at Camp Marydale in Louisiana. She lived her life with a spirit of service and a deep commitment to her Christian faith.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Kirk, and her daughter, Laura Kirk. She is survived by her children: Charlie Kiene, Edith Adams, Heather Kirk-Ballard, and Chris Kirk; and by her grandchildren: Laura Adams, Jackson Kirk, Olivia Ballard, Hadley Ballard, and Jayce Kirk.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on July 26 at Harvest Baptist Church, 483 Hallelujah Drive, Villa Ridge, Missouri. A graveside service will follow at a later date in Daphne, Alabama, where her ashes will be laid to rest with her husband and daughter.
When reflecting on her life, Phyllis once told her children she wasn’t worried about death: “The Lord either takes care of you or lets you go.” She also said, “I don’t want to have any regrets about my life or how I lived it.”
