Phyllis's obituary

Summerfield, FL: Phyllis J. Fowler, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 29, 2023. Formerly of Redfield, New York, Phyllis and her late husband, Bob, officially retired to Central Florida in 2016 after spending decades as snowbirds.

Born on July 11,1936 in Mannsville, New York to Chauncey and Jennie Wood, Phyllis attended several schools in Northern New York. On August 7,1954 she married the love of her life, Robert Fowler, in Lorraine, New York. Bob and Phyllis were a shining example of soulmates. They were a true team, working together on the family farm in Lafargeville, New York in the 1970’s, running Ashbaugh’s Nite Club in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico in the early 80’s, the Mobil service station in Cape Vincent, New York in the mid to late 80’s and playfully giving each other a hard time, every day in between until Bob’s death in 2017.

Phyllis enjoyed reading, watching Gunsmoke, daytime soap operas and trashy reality television shows on TLC, beating her friends at nearly every card game known to man, crocheting, putting together incredibly difficult puzzles and playing online BINGO. However, there was nothing Phyllis enjoyed more than spending time with her family and friends. Since 2019, Phyllis had the good fortune to live with and be supremely loved and cared for by her oldest daughter, Linda and her husband Troy.

In her later years, Phyllis was able to check several items off her bucket list including taking a couple of Caribbean cruises, spending her summers in New York, attending multiple country music concerts, dining at her favorite restaurants, and watching her family continue to grow.

Phyllis is deeply missed by her loving children, Kenneth (Barbara Gunter) Fowler, Linda (Troy) Simmons, Kurt (Kim) Fowler, Laureen “Sugie” (Rodney) Bertram, in addition to her adoring grandchildren, Craig Plaatje, Travis Fowler, Jessica LaShomb, Amanda Bertram, Amber Arguello, Summer Duran, Brian Plaatje, Matthew Fowler, Tasha Rodriguez, Tara Duncan, Courtney McCary, Taylor Bertram, Hunter Fowler and Coby Bertram and her 27 great grandchildren. She was a mother to many, often having her children and grandchildren’s friends in her home and around the dinner table.

Phyllis is also survived by her brother, Richard Wood, her sister-in-law, Irene Erickson, her brothers-in-law Perry Fowler and Karl Fowler.

Burial services for both Robert and Phyllis will be held Saturday, September 16th, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Boyleston-Sandy Creek Wesleyan Cemetery in Lacona, New York.

Phyllis and Bob's family invites friends to join us following burial services for a celebration of life reception at 2:00 p.m. at the VFW 60 Salisbury Street, Lacona, New York.
