Phil's obituary
Phil Sobotko, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024 at the age of 97. He was predeceased by Shirley, his wife of 75 years.
Born and raised in Bronx, NY he raised his family in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn before retiring to Boynton Beach, Florida in 1997.
After serving in the Navy, proudly as a Seabee, he returned home, married Shirley and worked several different jobs over the years. He ran tailoring booths at Korvette’s, owned a liquor store, and worked as a suit cutter in the garment district. He was committed to doing what it took to provide for his family.
At 50 he left the garment district to run Circle Lodge and Camp Kinder Ring. This is where he was meant to be. He would often say there is nothing like loving what you do, and he loved Kinder Ring with all his heart.
Phil always gave back to the communities he was involved in, whether it was the Brigham Park Co-op, the Workmen’s Circle or after he moved to Florida, various committees and boards in Coral Lakes.
Phil will be dearly missed by his loved ones including his sons Ira and David, grandsons Jeffrey (Olivia) and Brian (Emily), sister-in-law Elaine Cohen, nieces Laure Cohen, Ilene (Neil) Leibowitz, Riva Leibowitz, and beloved friends who were more like family, including the Posners and the Weir-Kahns. He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 75 years, Shirley, his brother-in-law Stanley Cohen and his daughter-in-law Noreen.
His memory will be a long and lasting blessing for all who knew and loved him.
Phil was laid to rest in a graveside service on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at New Montefiore Cemetery in West Babylon, NY. The family requests donations in Phil’s honor be made to the Camp Kinder Ring. https://www.campkr.com/donate…
