Philip's obituary

Philip A. Jalwan, of Sarasota, Florida passed away peacefully on April 11, 2022, while being comforted by his wife and children. Phil was a devoted husband to his wife Mary (Schneider)for 44 years, loving father to his children Andy (Stephanie), Katie, Kristin and Scott (Jamie), and the very best Papa to his grandchildren Bridgette, Connor, Tyler and Kyle.

Phil is preceded in death by his parents Josephine (Johns) and Andy Jalwan and his loving in-laws Jack Schneider and Betty (Urquhart).

Phil was the beloved nephew of Gene Corra, Henry Johns, Freddie Johns, Joyce Fowler, Julia Flier (all deceased) and Annie and Richard Johns. He was also the cousin to JP, Jeff, Blake, Blair, Cyndy, Beverly, Debi, Denise, Sudi, Kathy and Jeannie.

Phil was the brother-in-law to Maureen and Bob (deceased) Viscomi, Terry and TC Schneider, John

and KJ Schneider, Timmy Schneider (deceased), and Tommy Schneider (deceased). Additionally, Phil was

an adored uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Phil passes on his pursuit of the ‘good life’ to his best friends Jim and Mary Ellen Morrissey and John O’Brien and Jean Bourgeois.

Phil grew up in Parkersburg, West Virginia, where he attended Parkersburg Catholic High School. It was there he discovered his love of rowing. As a true “Pioneer,” Phil attended Marietta College where he continued his participation in Crew. During those days he made many life-long friends. After winning the National Crew Championships, he graduated from Marietta College with a degree in accounting.

Phil’s real story begins on a magical night in Beachwood, Ohio, when he walked into Houlihan’s Restaurant and saw the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen, a young nurse named Mary who was waiving at him! Yet Mary was not actually waiving at Phil. That misguided waive led to a 6 -week courtship and quick proposal.

Phil and Mary wed on September 24, 1977, exactly one year after meeting and they quickly formed a family, Phil and Mary regularly boasted about having four kids in 5 ½ years. Phil was first and foremost a family man, but also very successful in business. He operated an accounting and financial management company, Argie, Jalwan and Associates, with his partner, John Argie for 38 years. He was committed to his business, but always prioritized his family and never missed the important moments in their lives.

Once Phil had enough of the Ohio weather, he decided to semi-retire and move to Florida where the best part of his life began. This is when he was blessed with four grandchildren and earned the title of “Best Papa”. He loved his grandchildren more than anything.

When asked about his life motto, Phil responded, “One day your life will flash before your eyes, make sure it’s worth watching.” Thank you for your role in Phil’s life that was certainly worth watching.

Phil will be celebrated with a Catholic mass along with Mary’s brother, Timmy Schneider, who also passed away on January 10, 2022, at St. Noel Church, 35200 Chardon Rd., Willoughby Hills, Oh 44094, on Tuesday, July 12 at 11:00 a.m.

The family will be hosting a luncheon in Phil and Timmy’s honor following the mass at StoneWater Golf Club, 1 Club Drive, Highland Heights, oh, 44143.
