Philip Donald Hart
June 1956 to July 2025
OAKLAND-Philip Donald Hart “Phil”, 69, of Oakland, Maine passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, Maine. He was born in New Britain, Connecticut on June 26, 1956. He was the son of the late Donald R. Hart, Jr. and Paule-Marie (Giordano) Canavan.
Phil grew up in New Britain, Connecticut and spent his summers with his family at Crow’s Nest on Martha’s Vinyard. He moved to Maine in 1984, and in 1992, he met his significant other Carol, and they had two children, Nicholas and Jennifer Hart. Phil loved his family very much. He had the gift to tell stories, and you could always count on him for just about anything. One might say he was a jack of all trades. Sundays at the house were cribbage days. Vickie would call and ask him if he wanted something from Dunkin and Joyce would give him a haircut. He liked to play Farkle, but he loved a good game of cribbage. Phil also liked to take a ride to see Nancy and Roger. He was also a big fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. One of Phil’s passions was to ride his Harley with the American Legion Riders to many social events.
He worked many years as a land surveyor and held several jobs including at T-Mobile, Wal-Mart, the Federal Postal Service, Fred’s Coffee, and the Department of Transportation. Phil was a member of the Waterville Elks Lodge #905, Decker-Simmons American Legion Post 51, and the American Legion Riders in Oakland.
He was predeceased by his parents Donald R. Hart, Jr. and Paule-Marie Canavan and his brother, Peter Hart. He is survived by his significant other of 33 years Carol Gauthier. Their children, Nicholas and wife Emily and grandson Hayden, and Jennifer Hart. He also had a son, Zachary Hart, from a previous marriage. His sister Christine Hart, husband Bill Morlock and her son Benjamin Hart MacKinney and his wife Wendy (MacAuley) and their son Austin. His sister-in-law Andrea (Mosey) Hart and her children Brittany and Alexis. Vickie and John Butler, Joyce and Denny Cole, and Nancy and Roger Beaulieu.
In November 2023, he was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at MaineGeneral Medical Center and Harold Alfond Center for Cancer in Augusta, Maine for their support and care through Phil’s battle with cancer.
I would like to thank Tom and James for their support in helping Phil with rides to doctor appointments and checking to see if he needed anything. I would also like to thank our neighbor Aaron for mowing our lawn and other outdoor duties.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Decker-Simmons American Legion Post 51 in Oakland, Maine.
