Peter's obituary
Peter Siska, age 68, of Detroit, Michigan, tragically passed away on Thursday, December 5th, 2024.
Peter was born on Feb. 10th, 1956, to William & Jessie Siska. After graduating Melvindale High School, Pete went on to study education at the University of Michigan and became a teacher in Greater Detroit.
Pete was a humble, selfless man who never shied away from helping his family or community. He dedicated his life volunteering his time through numerous charitable organizations. Pete served as the director of the Animal Welfare Society of Southeastern Michigan, as well as a board member with St. Vincent De Paul. His generous efforts did not stop there, Pete was also very active with the Catholic Church and Salvation Army. Pete’s passion & care to animals did not end when he was no longer director of an animal rescue, he continued to help out animals in need nearly every day of his life. Dogs, cats - it did not matter to Pete, he was willing to do whatever it took to help animals in need.
In his hay-day, Pete was an astounding athlete. He received numerous achievements on the Melvindale Basketball Team, & won multiple 1st place awards in “Ford Punt Pass and Kick” competitions. In his 20’s, he became a competitive distance runner, completing several sub- 2:50 marathons. His enthusiasm for running led him to his group ‘Downtown Detroit Runners and Walkers’ where he was a member for over 30 years and met countless friends along the way. This running community was a second family to Pete, a community where Pete Siska was known as a legend.
Peter was preceded by his parents William and Jessie Siska. Pete is survived by his siblings Michael (Maria) and Suzanne, as well as his nieces, great-niece, and nephews Alex (Ben) and Aliyah, Michael (Amanda), and Andrew. He will be remembered by his family, his beloved running group, and the St. Vincent De Paul community. Pete’s genuine heart was a rarity and will be missed by many. The lives of the less fortunate he has touched are countless & will not be forgotten. Each day many of us will inspire to be more like Pete Siska.
Pete will lie in state at Our Lady of Loretto: 17116 Olympia, Redford Township, MI 48240 starting at 10 AM with a memorial mass to follow at 11 AM on Saturday, 12/21/2024
Celebration of life will be TBA in the coming months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cleo’s Legacy Animal Rescue (CleosLegacy.org) or St. Vincent De Paul.
