Pete always had a kind word to say to me when I was going to the Tuesday night DTR&W club.  He helped me out once when I needed a favor, in a pinch, to hold a ceiling fan up for me on one of my house painting  jobs in Midtown. It was on ceiling 12 feet high, hanging by only one little screw, and he held it so I could re-insert the other two screws before it might have come crashing down.  He kindly didn't laugh (too much) at me about how I got into that pickle.
