Peter's obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Peter Loupakis on November 3, 2023. Born in 1967, Peter delighted everyone he knew with his charismatic personality, and left us all too soon but not without leaving an indelible mark on our hearts.

Peter was best known for his dry sense of humor that always seemed to lighten the mood and bring laughter into the room. But there was more to him. He was a warm, kind, and helpful man who touched the lives of many. His love for his family, friends, and community knew no bounds, and his presence will be sorely missed.

He was a dedicated teacher, devoted to gymnastics and Tae-Kwon-Do for over 40 years. His passion was contagious, inspiring countless children to fall in love with movement, and many continued to bring their children and grandchildren into his care. His legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of the children he mentored and the community he helped shape. If we could speak to all of you individually, I need you to know you all left your mark on him as well. His heart was big enough to keep room for every student he shared a space with, and I know he kept you all very close in mind. We shared our father with many others he loved like his own. His legacy will be a community of children raised by his inexhaustible passion, care, and love.

We will be hosting a service to honor his life at Farenga Funeral Home & Cremation Services from 3 - 7 pm. If you would like to send flowers, you can do so from this florist: https://www.flowersbychuck.co…

A few hours at a funeral home is not enough time, really, to mourn a man who left such a mark on this community, but we invite you all to come and pay your respects or leave a message on his memorial website for all to remember him by. The outpouring of love we’ve felt from those who knew him is in the same breath as comforting as it is heartbreaking. Still, we need to speak to his identity outside of the gym.

Peter loved sci-fi novels and the beach. He loved to listen to his old Sony radio, he loved hard metal and laika. He loved to dance, he would joke that doing a backhandspring in a zembekiko was cheating because nobody could follow him up - except my mother with her quick feet of course. He loved his bike - he used to bike every weekday to and from The Cathedral School where he worked for many years - often with my sister and I clinging to him. He liked to talk about space, we argued about the dark forest theory - whether we’re alone on a rock or there is something out there. He read so many books. He wanted to write a novel one day. He loved his granddaughter. We’re sad he won’t be the one to teach her how to do a shoulder roll. He was always so supportive, gentle, funny, and proud. He was not without his flaws; all people are complicated, but his memory holds more joy than sadness. He will be missed so dearly by so many.

His life wasn't just about living, but about making a difference and creating joy. He will forever remain in our hearts, a beacon of strength, love, and compassion, and his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. Rest in peace, Peter Loupakis.

For our part, we will continue in his footsteps, teaching the community. Our father never pressured us to learn - he was supportive of all our interests, but it was impossible not to absorb his knowledge. Along with our mother, Barabara Loupakis, we’ll teach Nefeli everything he imparted to us - and we look forward to continuing his legacy.

He is remembered by his wife, the love of his life, Barbara Loupakis, his two “little girls” as he would call them, Effie Loupakis and Omorfoula Loupakis. By his new granddaughter Nefeli Persio Loupakis. By his father Tony Loupakis, his mothers Iwanna Koumianakis and Despina Loupakis, by his five siblings, Costas Loupakis, Aspasia Loupakis, Aphrodite Loupakis, Ioannis Koumianakis, Viki Koumianakis, and all his nieces and nephews.

Also in remembrance of his brother Harry Loupakis who parted years ago.

Written by his daughters, Effie and Omorfoula Loupakis
