Peter was born in Great Neck, Long Island, New York on July 17, 1937, the son of John Charles Greig of Aberdeen of Scotland and Marion Kelly Greig of New York, New York.  He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy, of Horatio, South Carolina; her daughter, Rosemary (Bob) Greene; Kerri Ward; 9 grandchildren (Taylor Little, Jessica Ward, Jeffery and Jason Greig, William and Cody Greene, Awni Hauso, Andrew and Jihi Bustamonte.  6 great-grandchildren (Sina and Alai, Anthony, Silas, Hasten, Brenden.)  Peter is predeceased by parents John and Marion Greig; sisters Marion K. Greig and Catherine Jean Greenburg; son, Peter Lynn Greig; daughter, Michell Ann Greig; stepsons, Roderick G. Greig, Jeffery T. Greig, and Kyle L. Greene; great-great grandson, Atreus-David Donahue.  Peter loved their ‘adopted’ children, John and Shannon Cavey.
Peter can truly be called a lover of God and country.  He served his nation in the Air Force for 20+ years, retiring at the rank of Tech Sergeant.  He was stationed in Taiwan, Colorado, France and Montana, retiring in 1976 at Shaw AFB. Upon retiring from the military, he had a career in repairing medical equipment, helping keep America healthy.  He served as a volunteer fireman for 28 years, achieving ‘Volunteer Fireman of the Year’ award for the Sumter County Fire Department in 2016.  As a man of strong Christian faith, he surrendered to a call to ministry at age 81, beginning studies at Fruitland Baptist Bible College in Hendersonville, North Carolina and receiving his Associates of Art Degree in the fall of 2024. He often taught, peached and served the church family at High Hills of the Santee Baptist Church, always have a good word to add of encouragement to the fellowship.  Most recently, even in his 80’s, he deployed to several distant locations as a chaplain with the South Carolina Baptist Convention Disaster Relief effort.  Peter and Nancy enjoyed traveling in their RV home.  As they did, Peter often served as a chaplain in campground settings. Since coming to the Lord at age 65, truly, Peter accomplished more for his Lord in his older years than many people do their whole lives.  He was a remarkable man of God.
A celebration of life and worship of Peter’s Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, will take place on Saturday, March 8, at 3 o’clock at the High Hills of the Santee Baptist Church, 6840 Meeting House Rd, Dalzell, SC.  Visitation with the family will be an hour earlier at 2 pm.
Memorials may be made to the High Hills of the Santee Baptist Church, 2155 N Kings Hwy, Dalzell, SC, 29040 and/or the American Cancer Society.
