Peter's obituary

Peter Jordan Luis Arroyo passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024, surrounded by members of his loving family, at home in Oklahoma City. He was 81 years old.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; daughters, Eva Arroyo, Ana Arroyo, Sara Abernethy and Nora Arroyo; and grandchildren, Zachary Borba, Jacob Abernethy and Naomi Abernethy.

Peter was a devout Christian, cherished friend and proud U.S. Navy veteran.

Peter was born on April 19, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Throughout his life, Peter was known for his gregarious, fun-loving personality and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He never met a stranger and made sure that everyone he met felt valued and appreciated.

Peter was a beacon of light in the lives of those around him. He was a loving husband. He and Nancy filled their home with warmth, laughter and love. Peter was an exceptional father, providing unwavering support and guidance to his daughters. His presence brought joy and comfort to his family, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Peter was known as a jokester, bringing humor and enthusiasm to everything he did. He had a passion for bringing people together and creating lasting memories. Peter's home was always open to family and friends, where he delighted in sharing good food, laughter and stories.

Peter was preceded in death by his brothers William Arroyo and Frances Arroyo, and his parents Ruth Lawrence and Peter Arroyo.

Peter found solace in his faith and was passionate about educating himself in religion. He served his country honorably in The U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1968, working as an electrical engineer in the Vietnam War on S.S. Bainbridge IV.

Peter's brilliance in electrical engineering was evident from a young age. Even in high school, his interest in science led to him to study cutting-edge developments in the world of EEG medical test technology.

In the 1970s, he served as an electrical engineer in Silicon Valley, where he was a team leader on projects that built AWACS aircraft systems and spearheaded ATM machines.

Peter had a curious mind and loved to tinker. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, carving art, and found great fulfillment in creating and building. He loved to explore nature through camping, hiking, and scuba diving. He was a dive master and frequented the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea along the coast of Puerto Rico.

Peter’s spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness that will be remembered fondly by those whose lives he touched.

A celebration of Peter's life will be held in June allowing time for our friends and family, far and wide, to make arrangements to say goodbye.
