Pete Klein was born on March 18, 1949. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree at Yale university. Pete was a great cook, and a talented artist. His incredible talents included painting, woodworking, graphic design, and home renovation. At a young age, Pete quickly became a model example of bad parenting combined with mental illness and a complete commitment to drinking, drugs, womanizing and being generally offensive. Pete enlisted to serve in the Navy, but not so much in a brave and patriotic way but more as part of a plea deal to escape sentencing on criminal charges. Pete later turned his whole life around and married Nancy Klein and they lived in a beautiful house on 1861 willow street that Pete built with his own hands. They later had 6 children Adam, Brenda, Courtney, Gali, James, and Werner. He loved his job and become chief at Battalion Stockton fire department. He was blessed to have an abundance of nieces and nephews. He was elated to be able to pass on his career as fire chief to his nephew Donald V Linow. Despite Donald’s struggle as a child he rose above the flames. Taking on such an important role is no easy task. Pete struggled for years with substance abuse due to his ongoing back injuries and still remained a great husband and even better father. When his niece Virginia and nephew Donald were sent to jail Pete was the one who posted their bail. Family was everything to Pete. When Werner broke his legs and lost a few of his teeth in a rock climbing accident Pete took care of all his medical expenses. When Gali died after a long battle with lung cancer, and multiple gun shot wounds, Pete came forward during those hard times and paid all the funeral expenses. When He found out Brenda his youngest daughter was born with cerebral palsy a disorder affecting movement, balance and posture and linked to abnormal brain development. He said she could never speak more than three words 1) Mom 2) Donalds (she loved McDonald’s) 3) Piano (she loved music)." Pete said Brenda was a blessing in disguise and had never met a kinder human being. A true hero is hard to find. And he will be missed dearly by those who crossed his path. Pete loved water skiing and going on long boat rides. Pete loved collecting military weapons, antiques and especially spending time with his family. He enjoyed hiking and backpacking in the Rockies and had traveled to 33 countries. Sadly Pete died peacefully in the arms of his wife on July 5th 2021.Pete’s last requests were simple. His wish to be cremated was honored and although not all his family could show up that didn’t stop them from spreading his ashes on the boat he saved up for since he was twelve. Celebration Of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, in the battalion Stockton fire departments parking lot, 135 W. Main. with Joseph Garfield conducting. Instead of flowers Joseph is asking each guest to please bring five dollars to cover cost and his time.
