Peggy's obituary
Peggy Lee (Brown) Norris, a radiant beam of joy and laughter, bid adieu to this world on February 28, 2024, in Charlottesville, VA, at the vivacious age of 75. Born on September 23, 1948, in Richmond, VA, Peggy blossomed into a life as vibrant as the flowers and gardens she so lovingly tended.
Peggy was a graduate of Highland Springs High School class of 1966. For over three decades, Peggy was a pillar of professionalism at the Virginia Department of Taxation and continued her education in Accounting at J. Sargent Reynolds College. Education and work ethic were engrained in her character. Peggy was very involved in the PTA at Montrose Elementary as well as encouraging her children to devote themselves to those same values. In 2005, she co-founded Stepping Stones Women's Center along with her daughter, which gave her the opportunity to give of herself to fellow breast cancer survivors. Peggy found solace in her faith which gave her incredible strength and resiliency. Her spirit found a harmonious echo in the hymns and fellowship at both Calvary United Methodist and St. Paul United Methodist churches.
Peggy was the kind of person who could befriend a butterfly—and often did, amidst her beloved flowers. Her wit was as sharp as her sewing needles, and her crossword skills were a clue to her brilliance. Her laughter was infectious, and her hugs were legendary. She devoted her kindness and generous spirit to volunteering her time and resources to many cherished social causes. Peggy was a champion of women’s causes and breast cancer groups, most fondly the Sisters Network of Central Virginia.
Peggy has left her earthly garden for a celestial one, joining her father, Leo T Brown, her mother, Margaret Tryggeseth Brown, and her brother, Fred Brown, in a place where every bloom is eternal.
Surviving Peggy is a family that is as vast and loving as her legendary laugh and personality: her devoted husband, Andy Norris; her children Marhalee "Leigh" Volz (Wil), James "Bo" Robins (Daniela), Elizabeth Metz, as well as her step-daughter Pam Norris; her grandchildren Michael Thurston (Tricia), Marisa Derr (Daulton), Madison Metz, and Eliza Robins; and her great-grandchildren Cayden Schwartz, Ahren Jones, and (Evelyn) Thurston, who will continue to grow in the loving sunshine of her memory. She also cherished her nephews, cousins, and countless devoted friends that she considered family.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Peggy's memory may make contributions to the American Lung Association, Stepping Stones Outreach Foundation or help the environment by Planting a Tree or a Butterfly Garden.
Peggy's legacy is no mystery, it is written clearly in the many lives she touched and the laughter she left behind. Her garden on earth may miss its most dedicated caretaker, but the seeds she sowed in our hearts will continue to flourish. Peggy succeeded in teaching us all the "secret of life"... To leave this world a much better place than we found it. She most certainly did.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, April 7th at 2:00 p.m. at The Manor House at Kings Charter in Mechanicsville, VA.
