Dro's obituary
Pedro was a student at P.S. 62 as a child and attended Bronx Preparatory Charter School during his middle school years where he played baseball, basketball, participated in school plays, and math team competitions on top of required after school enrichment programs. Pedro was later selected to be a part of the Fieldston Enrichment program in light of all his accomplishments where he continued to strive at great heights amongst some of New York City's brightest intermediate students eventually leading to a full scholarship to his dream high school.
Pedro attended the Thacher school in Ojai California, and was a member of the graduating class of 2015. He lettered on the varsity basketball and baseball teams, captaining the latter in his senior year. Pedro showed incredible perseverance in his athletic pursuits, continuing to play and contribute on his teams despite suffering two meniscus tears during his high school career. Beloved by his classmates, Pedro’s friends and peers remember him as mature beyond his years and somebody they looked up to. Despite coming from the Bronx, Pedro immediately adapted to the different cultures and demographics of a west coast boarding school. Spending time with him, one couldn’t help but notice how strongly everyone, from freshman to senior faculty, gravitated towards his insightful and genuine personality. The ultimate testament to Pedro’s effortless capacity for leadership came his senior year, when a group of his friends successfully campaigned for Pedro to become the senior class president, despite Pedro’s disinterest in the position. Pedro’s impact on the Thacher community was incredibly deep and lasting. Although the class of 2015 and the Thacher community grieves deeply for Pedro’s loss, the friendships he made and the impact he had will live on forever.
After leaving the Thacher School, Pedro attended Claremont McKenna College where he discovered and further pursued his passions for social justice and art. He graduated from Claremont Mckenna College with Bachelors degrees in Media Studies and Government. He was passionate about pursuing a career in the entertainment industry whether it be as a musician, screenwriter, actor or even videographer. Pedro was also very passionate about changing the community which he came from and actively spoke on being aware of and fighting social inequality.
Anyone who knew Pedro, knew that he was such a bright light with an amazing capacity for love. He was always a source of positivity and had an infectious energy and gravity about him.
He is survived by siblings Ketzia Ureña, Marine Ureña, Demy Ortiz, Dewin Ureña, Christina Stranza, Giankarlo Serrano, Johny Perez, Dario Serrano, Darianny, and partner Zaineb Sohail.
Pedro’s nieces and nephews: Ciarah, Kate, Xavier, Isaiah, Miguel, Lenin, Khris, Bella, Jaylene, Omer, Darielys, Christian and Jaycob.
