Paulina's obituary
Paulina Ann Teixeira Ramos
January 11, 1930- August 4, 2023
In loving memory of Paulina—As we celebrate her remarkable life, we are reminded of the playful spirit that touched each of us in unique and meaningful ways.
Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts as the middle daughter of Justa and Frederico Teixeira, she is loved and survived by her two sisters, Isabelle Livramento of Rumford, RI, and Mary Ramos of Las Vegas, NV. She was married to Valdemar Ramos, Sr. of Brava, Cape Verde, until his death in 1986. Paulina's boundless enthusiasm for discovery was infectious, inspiring her children—Lenore Ramos, Valdemar Ramos Jr., Delma Ramos McConnell as well as her grandson, Jordan Ramos—to approach the world with open minds and open hearts. With her playful spirit and fierce independence, she traveled, rollerbladed, and danced with them throughout her life, leaving footprints of laughter and wonder. And she never refused the next adventure.
Her artistic talents bloomed at the Swain School in New Bedford, where she nurtured her love for fashion and design. She painted her life's canvas with creations of beautiful dresses, gowns, needlework, and custom jewelry. Each piece was a testament to her creativity, a manifestation of her ability to weave design dreams into reality.
But Paulina's legacy transcended her artistic pursuits. Her gracious and welcoming nature turned strangers and acquaintances into cherished friends. She was a model of social grace, effortlessly navigating the nuance of human connections and leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.
Although her family scattered across distances, they remained the center of her universe. Her love knew no bounds, bridging the gaps between generations and cultures. Her infectious smile illuminated any room she entered, and she was sure to spread joy to those around her.
Paulina's nurturing spirit extended beyond her family, as she took on the role of guide and confidante for the children in her life. Her patient ears and wise counsel made her a source of comfort and inspiration, a steady presence in the lives of those who looked up to her.
Paulina's connection to her Cape Verdean heritage was a vibrant thread woven into the fabric of her being. Her presence in numerous Cape Verdean social clubs was a testament to her deep roots and her love for celebrating life through dance, song, and camaraderie. She lived with a passionate embrace of Creole tradition, bringing an aura of festivity wherever she stepped.
Though she has left this physical presence, Paulina's legacy endures, carried forward by the memories we hold. As we celebrate her life, let's remember the joyful twirls and the laughter that she gifted us. Let her spirit guide us to embrace curiosity, playfulness, and social grace in our own lives. In doing so, we keep alive the flame that Paulina ignited—a flame that will forever burn brightly.
Paulina peacefully passed away at home, with her daughter Lenore, son Val and his wife Marti, and daughter Delma and her husband Scott by her side.
Continue your journey, dear Paulina, as you dance a Coladera among the stars, forever embraced by the love and gratitude of those whose lives you've touched. Bai ku Deus, Paulina.
