🌟 Heavenly Happy Birthday, My Beloved Sister Paulina  JANUARY 11. 2026

Today I lift my heart to Heaven in honor of you, my dear sister Paulina. Even though you left this world a few years ago, your presence is still felt in every warm memory, every shared laugh, and every blessing you left behind.

You were a woman of extraordinary gifts—an excellent cook, a talented baker, and a dressmaker whose hands created beauty with such grace. But above all, it was your kindness, your generosity, and your loving spirit that made you unforgettable.

On your heavenly birthday, I thank God for the years we shared, for the lessons you taught me, and for the love that continues to surround me. I imagine you celebrating in the light of God’s peace, wrapped in joy, free from every earthly care.

Happy Birthday in Heaven, dear Paulina.

You are forever loved, forever missed, and forever cherished.

With all my love,

Your sister, IsabelleN

In Loving Memory of My Sister, Paulina

Two years have passed since you left this world, and yet your presence lingers like morning light through lace curtains—soft, enduring, and full of grace.

Paulina, you were more than a sister. You were a steady heartbeat in our family’s rhythm, a keeperof Cabo Verdean traditions , and a soul so rich in kindness that even silence felt warm around you. You taught me what strength looks like: not loud or boastful, but quiet and rooted. Your love for family, your morabeza—it all lives on. I carry you in my writing, in the stories I preserve, in the legacy I honor. You walked with grace, and now I walk with your memory.

Forever loved, forever remembered. AUG 4, 2025

Your sister, Isabelle

REMEMBERING MY SISTER PAULINA AS AN AMAZING, DARING, NATURALLY GIFTED COOK AND AMATEUR BAKER.

HOW CAN I FORGET PAULINA’S MEALS

Her home and kitchen always was a place where she constantly attended her love and warmth with family and childhood friends. She gladly let her home become an open avenue for The Livramento family to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas, Easter holidays and other days with her for many years before I relocated to 82 Padelford Ave Riverside, RI in 1990. We always felt at home and comfortable.

We enjoyed her Cape Verdean Cuisine and New England cooking.

The cuisine of Cape Verde boasts a rich culinary heritage that blends a West African cuisine largely influenced by Portuguese, Southern and Western European  Cabo Verde was a colony of Portugal from its colonization until 1975.

To Name a Few CV Favorite Dishes Enjoyed:

Cape Verdean Manchupa/Cachupa, is Cape Verde’s national dish. It’s a rich stew of hominy or maize, beans, various seasoned/marinated meats and vegetables. Every family has their own version, and even within families, there are different variations.

Jagacida, also known as Cape Verdean Beans & Rice, is a delightful dish with Portuguese influences. It’s a staple in Cape Verdean cuisine, combining simple ingredients to create a flavorful and comforting meal.

Galinha Guisada and Mandioca and stewed chicken , We called Mandioca (Cassava Root): Cassava root, also known as Mandioca, is another staple. It’s used in both savory and sweet preparations.

Cuscuz is a unique Cape Verdean breakfast food. It’s made mainly of corn flour or mandioca (yucca) flour. The corn version also contains sugar, cornmeal, and mandioca starch (also known as tapioca starch). Some people add a touch of cinnamon. commonly eaten with butter and/or drank with coffee during breakfast meals.

Pastel: These deep-fried turnovers are filled with meat, cheese, or vegetables. Pastel: These deep-fried turnovers are filled with meat, cheese, or vegetables.

Gufong is one of the most enjoyed favorite Cape Verdean treats. They’re little rolled pastries made of cornmeal and usually contain a binding ingredient like sweet potato, oatmeal or banana. They’re fried and slightly sweet, firm on the outside and softer in the center.

As an “amateur” baker she liked a challenge in recipes and enjoyed experimenting with new and unusual ingredients, techniques, and flavors. She was not afraid to try something different, even if it means risking failure.. Paulina was always looking for ways to improve her skills and creativity, and to surprise and delight her family and friends.

I remember when she was determined to proportionally Scale down a triple recipe for making Gofong for a smaller group. I assisted her in breaking down the measurements and it was a Challenge especially in measuring the baking powder.

My favorite pastries and baked goods I enjoyed

Chocolate /Vanilla layer Cake with chocolate/vanilla Pudding Filling in between

Apricot Banana Meringue Pie

Deep Apple Pie,

Fresh Strawberry and Creme layer cake

Zucchini Carrot Cake

Blueberry Chocolate Chip Butter Bundt Cake

Puerto Rican Rum Cake

Apple, Walnut, Prune, Rollup

OTHER REMEMBERANCES OF MY SISTER, PAULINA TEIXEIRA RAMOS ,Aug. 12,2023

GARDENING

My sister, Paulina in addition to all her talents, loved gardening. At several times she was involved in gardening a small vegetable garden in a special corner of her big yard and planted egg plant, zucchini ,tomatoes She carefully cultivated and cared for them. She supplemented her food with her small garden and she would prepare scrumptious baked eggplant with Mariana sauce in large sheet pans. My husband Joe would bake eggplant parmesan when she shared fresh eggplant with us.

She also loved to plant various flowers each year, in her yard: roses, Calle Lilly, Tulips, Pansies, Mums and marigold (I did not like the musky, pungent scent). Rose of Sharon, phlox, gladiolus, Daffodils. She cared for her trees, shrubs ,flowers and veggies clearing trash and debris for her garden area, she enjoyed mowing her lawn, cutting the hedges with an electric trimmer, picking weeds, pruning trees and shrubs with her big shears. Paulina always had "The Tools of The Trade" for whatever she needed to pursue a project. She learned that from our father Frederico Da Roza Teixeira.

Paulina would have a "fit" when the squirrels would damage new crops and popping the buds on her tulips flowers to get the seeds or tender insides of the bud, digging up her flower bulbs and replanting them elsewhere in the yard, leaving bit marks and shallow digging in her garden.

It infuriated her. She sprinkled chili flakes around the flower, placed moth ball, and protected her beautiful decorative planters with chicken wire. The squirrels were always one step ahead of Paulina. It was maddening for her. As a joke I purchased a fancy squirrel bird feeder. To my surprise, she did not remove it.

Paulina placed a bird feeder in the middle of her heavy duty clothesline to ward off the pesky squirrels from eating off the Bird feeder in the yard. But they figured out how to run along the clothesline and quickly empty the seeds out of the feeder and fall to the ground.

Even when using several techniques, it wasn’t possible to completely squirrel-proof a bird feeder. The pesky squirrels refused to leave, So Paulina stopped all feeding to encourage squirrels to move on to other food sources. Rarely does any one single method achieve complete squirrel control.

Paulina loved to watch the Weather Channel. She was a Weather Enthusiast. She had akeen interest in the weather patterns, and natural disaster. To me she stayed up to date on the latest weather news and forecasts. It was more that a conversation starter with her. She clued me on what deadly damage a Tsunami causes. I had no idea what a "Tsunami " was. This introduction about Tsunami was long before the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami occurred. I always wondered why she never pursed becoming a meteorologist,

In closing, I'd like to share a quote that I believe encapsulates Paulina's spirit: "In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." – Abraham Lincoln.

The Livramento family: Isa"Bella", Ariel and Ciarra will miss her dearly, but her memory will live on on our hearts.

May the strength of God sustain us; may the power of God preserve us; may the hands of God protect us; may the way of God direct us; may the love of God be with us, all the days of our life.

For all of us you gave your best,

Now the time has come for you to rest.

So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep,

Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep
