Paula's obituary
Paula was born in Jefferson City, Missouri to Kenneth and Diane Durbin and immediately made her presence known with her vivacious attitude and free spirit. From that day forward, she filled the air of every room she entered with her infectious laugh and boisterous personality. Her jubilant laugh will resonate in our hearts and memories forever.
As the firstborn of five children, she paved the way for her younger siblings, Eric (Suzanne) Durbin, Leanne (Christopher) Knight, Angela (Joshua) Howard, and Erin (Richard) Crawford, as a guiding compass of love and experiences. She would graciously walk her youngest siblings to school, even when she was grown and pregnant with her oldest child. We learned early on of her boldness and spontaneity when she would pack her sisters into the car on a whim and take us to swim in the backyard pools of show homes. She taught us to sing loudly to 80s music, have Grease sing-alongs, and dance like no one was watching. We had a Christmas tradition of wrapping gifts with the women of the family tucked back into our mother’s bedroom, and we spent most of the time laughing until we cried.
Paula’s proudest achievement came from being a mother to her four children, Brittani (Adam) Dennis, Skyler (Alexis) Palmer, Gavin Palmer, and Paul “PJ” Luper Jr., grandmother to five, Candice, Pharah, Ryley, Aubrey, and Ryver, and honorary grandmother to Jazmyne, Wyntir, Reiygn, Storym, and Achylles. If her children or grandchildren needed help or guidance, Paula was there immediately with open arms. Her love for music was instilled in her children when she would blast tunes while the family worked through their chores. If they were having a bad day, she would drive them around with the windows down and sing their favorite songs to cheer them up. Paula gave each of them a deep passion for music.
Paula found the love of her life when she met Allen Brister with whom she and PJ resided in Clyde, TX. She found a home with Allen’s family as well as in the surrounding community. Paula and Allen shared a love of comfort, support, and faith which continued strongly throughout her illness. Allen was an integral part of her care, and he stayed right by her side until she was called to her heavenly home.
Paula worked many years as an Office Manager at dental practices. She was an avid reader and loved to share her passion for reading with others in the many book clubs she participated in over the years. She adored dogs, especially her sweet Buddy she rescued recently. Paula loved leopard print, fancily manicured nails, and just about anything else that matched her larger than life philosophy. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
