Paul von Schmidt, resident of Collinsville, Connecticut, passed away on July 23, 2023, at the age of 67. He was born on July 16, 1956, to Peter and Annie (Bennett) von Schmidt in Westport, CT.

Music was undoubtedly one of Paul's greatest passions. After graduating from Staples High School, Paul attended school in Vermont to study luthiere and went on to open a successful luthier business in Barkhamsted CT; making and fixing stringed instruments. In addition to working with Ovation Guitars, he repaired guitars for music stores throughout the state, supporting and advocating for local musicians, while being a talented guitar player in his own right.

On top of his musical prowess, Paul was an talented chef, artist, and avid learner. Those lucky enough to taste his homegrown and homemade hot sauces will remember them indefinitely, as well as remember his endless curiosity for knowledge.

With his passing, Paul leaves behind a community that is deeply saddened but immensely grateful for the time they had with him. He is survived by his daughters Tara von Schmidt and Alissa Savage-Paul (Chris), his grandchildren Alexandria Savage, Ariana Savage and Finn Paul, as well as his brother Christian, extended family, and countless friends.

Paul's life was defined by music, storytelling and good friendships. In his honor, we encourage you to raise a glass, strum a guitar string, or plan your next adventure, just as he would have wanted.
