Paul's obituary

Paul E. McNeil, age 85, of Plymouth, formerly of South Boston, passed away on Thursday, February 8th, in Plymouth. He was the devoted husband of the late Margaret A. “Peggi” (Rooney) McNeil. Loving father of Christopher McNeil of Boston, and the late Susan McNeil Rich. Grandfather of the “apple of his eye” Ashley Rich of Naples FL. Brother of John J. McNeil of Manomet, Sister Clare L. McNeil SCN Nazareth KY, James McNeil of Quincy, and the late Anne Marie McNeil. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Born in South Boston, on September 23, 1938, son of the late John J. and Anna (Morrissey) McNeil. Paul was a graduate of Don Bosco. He joined the Massachusetts Air National Guard in 1958 and was activated by President John F. Kennedy’s response to the Russia threat in Berlin Germany. In October 1961, Paul and his unit flew to France where they spent the next nine months in support of NATO until Russia opened access to Berlin. He returned to National Guard status and retired in 1963. Paul went on to make his career as the assistant director of facilities for the Boston Public Schools for many years. He was very active with the Knights of Columbus; third degree with council #10049 St Bonaventure, and fourth degree with assembly #394 Cardinal O’Connell. Paul was also a board member and former president of the Manomet Beach Shore Association. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, witty comebacks, and willingness to help anyone no matter the circumstances.

A visitation will be held at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 619 State Rd, (Manomet) Plymouth, on Wednesday, February 21st, from 4:00 pm till 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will take place the following day at St. Bonaventure’s Church, (Manomet) Plymouth, at 10:00 am. Followed by burial in Manomet Cemetery. Donations in Paul’s memory may be made to St. Bonaventure’s Church, PO Box 996, Plymouth MA 02345, or to the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, PO Box 9, Nazareth KY 40048
