Paul's obituary

Paul Lanen died peacefully on Saturday, June 6th, in Franklin, Massachusetts, with family cherishing him nearby, after many years of living with MS and kidney disease. Paul had resided for a number of years in nursing care. He was predeceased by his parents, Ted and Lucille Lanen. Paul leaves his brothers; Thomas and wife Bonnie, Mark and wife Susan, his children Matthew and Sarah, and a number of loving nieces and nephews. He also leaves his close friend of many years, Annemarie Mucciarone of Franklin, who was as family to him.
Paul grew up in Wellesley, Massachusetts, and had lived in several places in Massachusetts, but spent the greater part of his last 20 years in Franklin, where for many years he was often seen on excursions on his mobile wheelchair. He was adventurous and put more miles on his Hoveround than family would have believed possible.
Paul graduated from Wellesley High School in 1974, and had an associates degree from Wentworth in Boston. Before the onset of illness he worked in the construction business, which he loved.
He loved music, especially the Blues, and played guitar all his life. He was well known at The Blackstone Nursing and Rehab as the man who sat on the porch and played and sang for passersby.
Paul had a great smile and a big heart, and a unique perspective on the world. He was ambitious and never gave up on the idea of going back to college. The many wonderful nurses and CNAs and others who cared for him over the years often told his visiting family that he was a good man, and while sometimes difficult, overall was a loving and well intentioned man. Paul was a man of Christian faith, and he passed from this life in the grace of our Lord.
Services and interment will be private. Donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the MS Society, or in support of any cause in support of Mental Health initiatives.
