Paul's obituary
Paul was born December 24, 1947 in Canton, China. Before immigrating to Canada, he worked for a Hong Kong telecommunications company for several years. Upon his arrival in 1970, Paul worked for Deharverlin Air Corporation. He studied at both Seneca College and Ryerson University before he found a place at Rogers Cable where he spent the next 40 years until his retirement, in 2014.
Although he never married and had children of his own, his nephews and nieces all treated him like a second father and as a cool uncle. Uncle Paul (Yee Suk/Yee Baak), was well respected among the extended family and we were all, especially his brothers, very protective of him. Uncle Paul, will be fondly remembered for his smiley eyes, gentle and happy-go-lucky personality, generosity and making our yeh yeh's (grandfather's) tomato and egg dish. He always made time to get to know you, show an interest in your life, and share stories about what he's been up to. He always thought of others before he thought of himself. As shown through his personal and professional life, Uncle Paul never stopped learning. While working at Rogers Cable, he would continually upgrade his skills to keep current with changing technology. His sense of adventure and passion never wavered and he was very active throughout his life, even into retirement. He was an avid skier and cyclist who would go skiing around the world in search of the best slopes and cycled across the country of South Korea. Uncle Paul took piano and flight lessons and would actively go to the gym to stay healthy. He was generous with his money and his time; he taught his nieces and nephews how to ski, took us out for many family meals at restaurants, hosted Chinese New Year dinners at the Laurentide home, and would travel halfway around the world just to help his brothers. Out of the six Hui brothers, he was the quiet one but he could hold his own when there was an infamous Hui brothers' “debate”.
Uncle Paul, you will remain forever in our hearts as we cherish all the wonderful memories. We will be miss you dearly.
A small, private ceremony will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, May 22, 2020 at the Elgin Mills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, which cannot be accepted due to COVID-19, the family kindly requests that friends and family make donations to a charity of their own choosing on behalf of Paul Hui.
