Paul Edward Hlavacs was born on July 24, 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio, the first-born child of Mary and Paul Vincent Hlavacs. He grew up in the Buckeye Road neighborhood alongside sister, Nancy and brothers, George and Raymond. He graduated from Benedictine High School and studied for a short time at John Carroll University. He attained the rank of sergeant in the Army’s 1st Cavalry division, stationed in Korea.
