Paul's obituary

Paul R. Frost of Hermantown, Minnesota passed peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones early Sunday morning of June 23, 2024. After a fall on Father’s Day, he had a short stay in the hospital before family was able to honor his wishes and bring him home for his final days. He lived a long, adventurous and love-filled life, leaving behind an amazing legacy and many stories to be shared.

Paul R. Frost was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on July 31st, 1926 to Howard and Pauline (Grulich) Frost. Paul graduated from Central High School in Saint Paul and the University of Minnesota. Immediately after high school graduation Paul joined the Navy in which he served until 1946. It was while he was in the Navy that he met his wife, Virginia (Gini) Wilkes, in Portland, Oregon on September 15th, 1945. After six years of courtship, mostly by mail, they were married in 1951. They were married seventy years before Gini’s passing from Alzheimer's in 2021.

Paul worked for Multi Clean and Hallmark Cards and lived in Kansas City, MO; Burnsville, MN; and Dallas, TX. After retirement, they lived in Grand Rapids, MN; Ashland, OR; and Duluth, MN. They were honored to live close to family; spending time living in both areas in which their children and grandchildren/great-grandchildren resided.

Paul and Gini loved to travel. To begin, they pulled trailers; first a foldout, then a high/low, and finally an AirStream. She and Paul visited most of the states and took an extended caravan trip through Mexico. They also attended twenty-two Elderhosteles, took sixteen cruises, and visited ninety-one foreign countries.

Paul was a devoted father of two children (Linda and Ward). He was well-known for his storytelling abilities, laughter, and humorous personality. In the past ten years he also became quite the baker; making birthday cakes from scratch for his great-grandchildren and always having brownies in the freezer. Most of all, Paul was a devoted husband, taking care of his wife up until her passing. When Gini was no longer able to be cared for at home by Paul and daughter, Linda; twice daily he would visit her to feed her, sing to her, and simply just hold her hand.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Pauline Frost; siblings, Jack and Betty Frost; and loving wife, Virginia Frost. He leaves behind his two children Linda and Ward (Pam) Frost; four grandchildren Jacob (Camille) Berg, Amber (Eiler) Nielsen, Shawn (Rachel) Frost, and Graham (Maggy) Frost; and eleven great-grandchildren Maya, Dane, Camden, Rosalie, Eila (Nielsen), Jace, Jenna, Jessa (Berg), Katherine (Frost), Rowan and Tobias (Frost). He also leaves behind a niece and nephew, Bob (Donna) and Janet (Frost); and nephews David (Tisha) and Gary (Cecilia) Loe, who called him every first Saturday of the month for conference call conversation, which he very much cherished.

Paul was a member of Glen Avon Presbyterian Church and a service celebrating his life will be held will be held on his birthday, July 31st.  He would have been 98 years old.
