I made this to honor you the day you left us. It’s raku fired and very meaningful to me. It’s an abstract cactus and is beautiful and prickly, water in the desert, sometimes a home for birds and other wildlife. It can shade in the brutal sun.

Even though so many years had passed since we talked my memories of the DeSessa family are ingrained in my memory.  I once went to visit Paul at his apartment and his friend Douglass was there as well and he dragged us to the bathroom to show us that his toilet was from a company name Douglass and Gloria. Then he said stand on it, look to the left ,"I have a view of the NYC skyline".

We are so sorry to hear of Paul's death.  He was the smartest person I ever knew.  We remember with joy the many times we had dinner together.  we still use some of the funny things he said. There was not a dull moment--he brought joy to our family.  Our son, Jonathan, remembers sitting in the tree in our front yard, listening for the sound of his old Jeep while waiting for an outing with the GI Joes on Wheels.

Leslie.....I am so sorry for your lost. Paul, (Dude) as we called him was a good friend when we  lived in Fayetteville. We moved and lost touch but I've often thought of the good times I had playing poker and just shooting the bull with Dude, Gar, John and myself. I'll never forget the time we rented a town car and drove to Atlantic City to hit the Casinos; that was a very short, up and back trip over a weekend. Dude suggested that we put money in a plastic bag for gas money for the return trip. Anyways, the first night we stayed at the Trump Hotel thinking we were "it". The next night we had to stay at this sleeze-bag hotel on top of some building. Dude,  slept by the door and said he would protect us while we were sleeping. We always had a great time just playing poker and talking for hours on end.......Great memories, I cherished  our friendship. He will be surely missed by his beloved family.

MEMORIES OF PAUL DESESSA

1991 - Paul and Leslie were our first friends in Fayetteville.
I met Leslie pushing my baby stroller with Jessica (now 32) in her neighborhood and she was pushing here baby stroller with Mark. We quickly found out we had a lot in common, we had come from New Orleans and they from Baton Rouge. I invited them to dinner for Gumbo and the rest is history.

Paul was smart, upbeat, loved life, best story teller and was able to always make people laugh. He was welcoming, hospitable, kind and attentive to everything that was going on. Leslie is really the chef, but it was always a standing joke that he took the credit for all the incredible meals she cooked and artfully presented. He just smiled at her with such appreciation with that twinkle in his eyes.

Our family experienced many happy times from themed birthday parties, pony rides to obstacle courses, easter egg hunts, Independence Day picnics and fireworks, parades and Civil War Re-enactments, special dinners. My children affectionately call him "Uncle Paul".

What I admired most about Paul was how much he loved Leslie.
He was thoughtful, generous and kind. Attentive to all the important things and allowed her the freedom to fully express herself through her Art, decorating, cooking, community service, self employment and those 3 quirky and slightly crazy cats!

The most precious event I witnessed along with other close friends and their 2 sons was a renewal of love ceremony that Paul planned as a surprise for Leslie at home in their living room. It was casual, unexpected and beautiful. He articulated his admiration, respect and love to Leslie, honoring her and surprising her with an elegant diamond ring. They were truly best friends.

I love that Paul always would take time to walk through any faith questions Mark was wrestling with. He had a way of simplifying the complexities of faith and biblical doctrine. I’m eternally grateful for the solid foundation that both Paul and Leslie paved for Mark.
So sorry for the loss of your beloved Paul. Find comfort in his memory and know that his love is forever. Karen Fassnacht Strauss.

Paul visited Mark and I in Charlotte to assist us with a few things moving into our first apartment together. We took him out to dinner at BEEF ‘N BOTTLE afterwards. One of his favorites. I’ll never forget my Father In Laws hugs. The best hugger. He would whisper in my ear, “thank you for making my son so happy!
