Paul's obituary

Paul Jason Barker, 42, passed away on February 5, 2023, in Dublin, VA. Paul was born June 19, 1980, in Radford, VA and raised by his mother, Anita Barker Hughes, and his father, Roger Hughes. A beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, his fun-loving nature will live on in each person who knew him.

Paul graduated from Pulaski County High School in Dublin, VA. He then earned a degree in English from NRCC, where he graduated with honors.

Paul was a talented artist. He explored various media, from charcoal to oil paints. His work were expressions from his heart that he often gifted to family and friends. These gifts will forever serve as treasured symbols of Paul’s talent, passion, and unrelenting kindness and generosity.

Paul loved animals, and above all, his Golden Retriever, Molly. He also enjoyed art, music, poetry, spending time with family and friends, and making others laugh. His humor and wit filled the lives of his loved ones with boundless joy and fun. As many know from experience, Paul always appreciated a good prank.

Paul was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mildred and Allen Barker; his paternal grandparents, Mary Edwards and Henry Hughes; and his aunt, Linda Leeson.

Wonderful memories of Paul will be forever cherished and shared by his loved ones, including his mother, Anita Hughes; father, Roger Hughes; sister, Lindsey Frazier; brother-in-law, Joel Frazier; nephew, Elias Frazier; brother, Colin Barker; sister-in-law, Amy Barker; and nephew, Nathan Barker, who love him beyond measure. His chosen brothers include Jimmy Ward, Matt Henley, John Dunford, Daniel Huff,  Polo Trivett, Avery Nester, and Brandon Jefferis.

Inmediate family will gather at Highland Memorial Gardens in Dublin, VA for a graveside service.

Paul regularly raised funds for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital,  St. Mary’s Foundation, and other charitable organizations. If you wish to make a donation, the family requests that you support St. Jude’s, St. Mary’s, or your favorite charity benefitting children or animals in need.
