Today’s date is 8/26/22 My time with Doc B was November 1986-April 1988 in Portsmouth, NH when his practice was still named Bacon Chiropractic. I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing today. Aaron & Jessica, my condolences to you. He was a great chiropractor, friend, boss & mentor to me. He moved from Iowa to NH, and I moved from NH to Iowa after working for him for about a year and a half! It was the best, most fulfilling time working for someone in my entire life! Doc B I can easily say was the single most influential person in my life beyond my family members! I have thought of him fondly over the years & have recounted the following story about him to many people...
I moved to NH in 1985 after graduating from college in upstate NY to work for a veterinarian before hopefully going to veterinary school. I found out that it was not for me. So I was working at a restaurant in Stratham, NH in 1986 & one of the cooks (Bob) told me, “Jessica, my chiropractor is looking to hire a chiropractic technician. You will love him & you’ll be great there. You should apply!” So I did! I was very nervous about my interview as I had absolutely no experience or knowledge of chiropractic, but I was very open to it & excited about working with natural health. Doc B told me that he was very glad that I knew nothing because if I had any previous CT training he would have to unteach all of that & then re-train me to his specific needs because he did things a bit differently than most chiropractors!
Well, it was the beginning of a wonderful relationship and exciting time in my life! But it was too short, because of the ways he inspired me...
I loved my work in his office; my coworkers Janice & Ellie; our patients; and of course Doc B. He taught me so much, and I lit up, recognizing that holistic health was an important part of my future!
We all know that Doc B could really get deeply engaged in passionate & thought provoking conversations! One day after adjusting a married couple, another couple joined them & Doc B in an adjusting room. I took the patient notes during his appointments and taught patients their corrective & maintenance exercises (Spinal twists! Fulcrums!), so I waited in the hallway outside the adjusting rooms until he was ready to see the next patient if I wasn’t busy with a patient. So I often overheard some very interesting things! After the conversation Doc B had with those two couples, I asked him privately, would you please tell me what you all were talking about? Some kind of meditation course? What’s all the excitement about & why are you so interested in it? He said to me, “Jessica, there are 3 things that I am afraid to live without. They are: my knowledge of chiropractic; my knowledge of nutrition; and my practice of meditation.” Well, that one conversation forever changed my life! I learned the meditation that he then practiced as soon as possible in July of 1987! I then went at lightning speed through a residence course and then advanced training with the goal of enrolling in a graduate program with research in consciousness at the university (in Iowa!) associated with that meditation! Doc B was so happy for me, and he was admittedly somewhat envious because he wanted to do those things too!
I have been passionate about nutrition since Doc B introduced me to “Fit for Life”, Standard Process Lab supplements; sent me for Contact Reflex Analysis training with Dr. Versendaal; and put me in charge of the patient nutritional programs & protocols in his office! I am now an intuitive holistic wellness educator and love working with individuals and groups to empower people to be in tune with their selves and flow in a life supporting way rather than be at the mercy of destructive emotions, thought patterns & conditioning. Although I no longer practice the specific meditation that Doc B told me about, I am committed to spiritual practice and am actively engaged in supporting the expansion of love & light on Earth and the Oneness & Enlightenment of humanity. I was looking up Doc B’s current status because I am coming to NH (for a family wedding) for the first time in over 30 years and wanted to catch up with him. I miss him, will always love him and deeply appreciate the guidance, mentorship, friendship and inspiration that Doc B provided for me at a very formative time of my life. I sincerely wish that I had made it back to NH to visit with him before his illness and passing. I recently got remarried, and my husband is a chiropractor! Chiropractic has been an integral part of my life since the day I met Doc B! My husband would have loved him too. (A little side note that I am in the process of changing my name to Jecica Aum Heart & Mrs. Haddington O’Heart. If you try to look me up, I have a FB page called the sacred healer but I haven’t yet made a new FB profile as Jecica Aum Heart).
Peace, love, light & blessings to you Aaron & Jessica and to all of your family & those who love the wonderful Paul R. Bacon. He was a gem! I celebrate his amazing life & profound, positive impact on so many people!
