Pat's obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick "Pat" Ronald Wong on May 31, 2025 at Orange Coast Medical Center Hospital. Pat, born on December 7, 1947, was a beacon of joy and laughter in the lives of many.
A man of simple pleasures, Pat enjoyed a variety of foods from red velvet cake, peanut butter cookies, sushi and dim sum, to tacos, burritos, Hawaiian food, and BBQ. His choice of refreshment often included McDonald's decaf coffee and an array of carbonated drinks.
Pat's appreciation for music spanned across 50's and 60's doo-wop to Christian worship and Hawaiian tunes. His love for sports was evident in his unwavering support for UCLA.
Never one to shy away from the open road, Pat yearned for new places to eat, enjoyed golfing, watching TV, talking with his friends and family, playing tennis, fishing, napping, and cooking. His favorite vacation spots included Hawaii and fishing in Alaska and Lake Panguitch, Utah.
Graduating from Belmont High School on West 2nd Street, Los Angeles, CA in 1966, Pat went on to impact countless lives during his more than thirty years of teaching in Downey Unified School District before his retirement. His favorite books included The Bible, and he enjoyed tuning into the History Channel, Food Network, Travel Channel, ESPN and a variety of reality TV.
Pat married Jennifer Kubota-Wong, in 1994 and they were blessed with a child, Kaitlin, on January 18, 1995. He was a funny, friendly, adventurous, intelligent, reliable and generous man of faith. His favorite way to exercise included golfing, tennis, and occasional walks. He enjoyed games of Sudoku and Poker.
Pat's life was enriched by the color blue, sci-fi and action movies and, occasionally, romantic comedies. He also had a fondness for old Chinese martial arts films.
A man of wisdom, Pat's greatest life lesson was to "Find joy in the little things." His enduring legacy of kindness and love will forever be missed by his friends, family and former students.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on September 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Wintersburg Presbyterian Church, 2000 N Fairview St, Santa Ana, CA 92706. As we remember Pat, we celebrate a life exceptionally lived and a man greatly loved.
